I really enjoyed the art style and palette shift.

This is a really nice font, super cute.

I found it a bit difficult to track EVERYTHING that was going on, but interesting concept!

Act 2! Out now!

Act 2 is live! I'd love some feedback.

Art/animation was definitely the best bit! Very cute.

Thanks! How did you get on with it?

That was a unique experience. I'm hungry.

Cards with a fire effect are fueled by powder, so for every stack of powder when you play a card with a fire effect, it plays that effect once.

I'll cover that in the next update: thank you for the feedback and yeah I wanted to do it pretty close to STS due to the constraints of the jam timeline since then I could focus more on vibes and polish. Act 2 is cooking and should include some more unique mechanics and clearer UX of what stuff does!

Yo this is baller.

You could do a lower Res sprite?

The mixels could use some work (eg have the ball at the same pixel density as the background) and perhaps use some more shading tricks to make it feel like it has more depth?

Nice and responsive though!

Aw thank you so much! I'm working on Act 2 (and a rebalance) to come out before Halloween so this kind of feedback is golden. Would you be interested in joining my discord and helping me test it?

Thank you! I definitely put the balance more on the end of "streamable". I'll take that into account while working on Act 2 and I'll add some more art to the book too ☺️

How did you find the balance? The fractured story is definitely in the text and vibes rather than the combat 😂

The art really makes this, you've definitely got a real knack for it - keep making games!

Thanks! It was a fun project

I love all projects set in an art gallery. Always. My favourite liminal space.

Any gameplay screenshots?

Thanks for testing everyone! I've collated all of the feedback I've had and there's a few (small) updates to the UI/UX that should help with onboarding and easier play.

Bugfixes:

  • Happiness now no longer always open your capital
  • Tech tree always shows correct data
  • Fixed crash when opening a military report under specific circumstances

Cities:

  • Double click a city to open it (or A on controller directly to open it)
  • City screen more clearly shows which squares are being worked
  • Two cities can no longer work the same square

Onboarding

  • Top bar shows current research
  • Onboarding tips in the bottom bar
  • A discovered advance now tells you what's next

Keyboard

  • Q and E are now shoulder buttons

I only booked myself one hour at the recording studio... people who do this for a living are HARDCORE I was sweating by the end of it.

This didn't end up quite as spooky as I originally intended but I think it still falls somewhat under horror. What do you think?

Tiny text to speech?

I'm not sure there's ROM space... maybe though!

Not yet! I'll try clean it up after the jam.

I ended up using LR to cycle since I simply could not select the piece I wanted to move using the arrow keys. I think the arrow keys having selection be by closest distance in that general direction could maybe help?

There is currently no way to select the following piece using the arrow keys (my expectation would be UP would get me there)

Really delightful! It can be a bit tricky to select the piece you want to move at times but otherwise an entirely polished and easy to play game.

This is super charming and fun! A really nice homage.

For a future update could you do a pass on the map movement/scrolling? I don't know exactly WHAT should change but walking around gives me a kind of motion sickness feeling.

Stickers are plain obj sprites! Yeah the UX was I think the hardest part of this, the best way to interface is with a mouse. Definitely could do with another pass (or even multiple control modes?)

Thank you!

Yeah I didn't quite have time to fix the freezes, sorry.

I love Jeatures

6 separate boards on this version, but rotating the cube changes the boards! Nice to see it on real hardware 🤩

but where is 4D!

I'm doing the same :)

I have a game that was pretty liminal, I made it in Unity so I could make my jam project to port it to pure webgl - would that fit?

That's honestly a great shout, I'll go ahead and do that.

Also thank you for putting this on, this was a great jam.
