How does your game fit the theme?
Buildings count down to produce resources. Fire fighter ships count down to put out fires and fires count down to destroy buildings. Escape ships count down to launch. There is also an implicit count down. The system's star has gone supernova and will eventually destroy the planet so time is ticking down.

This is a really fun game! It was both really relaxing and very high stress at the same time! I really liked the multitasking I had to do near the end, where I was trying to keep escape ship production up while making sure nothing burned for too long. The camera angle sometimes interfered with my ability to send fire fighter jets to buildings behind them, but I could just send them slightly over and it was fine. Great work with this game!

Thanks for playing! I'm glad you liked it :D

This was great, really impressive! The balance was pretty good already, I think the major possible exploit now is that the inventory is completely safe so I could get away with letting my forges just burn to the ground once I had enough stored up. Tbf, the psychic damage I would've taken if my stores had disappeared in a fire might've lead to me fully ragequitting, so maybe that was a good call.

Developer

I'm glad you liked it! The idea of putting your stores at risk is definitely an interesting one. We didn't end up considering it but having a building that maybe dings your resources every time a fire burns through could have been a good addition but like you said, it would probably be a high risk of causing ragequitting. Something we could think about finding a right balance for though.

Very thematic. So thematic that the tension was too much and I quit so I wouldn't see all my hard work go up in flames.

Developer

Thanks for playing anyways! I know there can be quite a lot of fires towards the end.

Why is the fire fighter ship moving so slow, when I put out the fire on one tile, 3 additional spawned like at the end of my world 😭

I really like the aesthetics of the visual, it reminds me of such old and obscure games like Roboball, haha! Good job! 🔥🔥🔥 (fire emojis, as in reference to everything getting on fire lol)

Developer(+1)

I'm glad you liked it! Sorry about the slow speed, probably a bit too much on that side. But glad it created a level of tension to the gameplay and that you liked the overall visuals. :D

Yep, we had similar idea for the game. I was hooked playing it because I like this kind of game :D

It was really cool to play a similar game. I was really appreciated that you added the tutorial tips to the game, that was something my game was missing so badly.

The second thing is the ability to remove the buildings, cool!

Besides that, I love this mechanic of fighting fires, it's a pretty clever way to keep the player "awake" and manage the city.

I love the idea for the environment, the planet and the view are super cool!

Congratulations on your submission!

Developer(+1)

I'm glad you liked it! We wanted to add an element with the fires to give players something that required them to actively do something to keep things running smoothly. We were hoping to get a tech tree in like you managed for your game but ended up running short on time haha, so I guess maybe that's the trade-off with taking the time to add the tutorial tips.

That's quite the experience! The pacing is really great as you start the game slowly but you feel the anxiety coming up and up with the fire getting more frequent. It's great work and great take on the theme. I just was quite mad at the fact the firefighter were so slow to move. I think making them a tiny bit faster would help a lot because you don't really know immdiately if they're moving or not. But other than that, great game!

Developer

I'm glad you liked the pacing! We had hoped having the chance of fires go up as time went on would make for a more fun experience so glad that paid off. Definitely appreciate the feedback on the ships too, we probably should increase the acceleration on them a little bit so they start moving faster.

I had built such a nice little empire... and then it all burned down :(( Really fun game!

Everything is on fire, but at least people managed to escape! Congratulations for this game jam!

Developer

Thanks! :)

I liked the mechanics, it was really fun having to manage all the buildings and gather resources !

love management games and this one is super nice. unfortunately the full screen option didn't work for me and reading all the small text was kinda difficult :(

Developer

I'm sorry to hear the fullscreen didn't work! Not sure why that happened, its worked on every browser I've tried but must have missed one. Glad you liked what you were able to see though!

Submitted(+1)

The game is so fun mainly because it is balanced so well. I didn't feel confused or overwhelmed at any point. Nice idea of trying to evacuate people off a planet.

Developer(+1)

I'm glad you liked it! Also glad the balance felt right, we didn't have nearly as much time to play with the numbers as we were hoping so I'm happy we still ended up on a happy medium.

Building up resources while the planet countdown keeps running is a really fun strategy concept!

Developer

Thanks! :D

Really fun and tense in a good way—the fires kept me alert without feeling unfair. I stayed engaged the whole time and didn’t run into any bugs, though the camera made it a little hard to click the right buildings sometimes.

Developer

Thanks for playing! We'll definitely have to look at the clicking to see if we can make it a bit easier to select buildings behind other buildings.

Super fun. The fires were hard to fight but it felt balanced to give me just the right amount of tension. I don't think I encountered any bugs and I was engaged the whole way through!

I'm glad you liked it and didn't run into any bugs! :D

Cool little game. The sun creeping in behind is a really nice touch. It adds a lot of atmosphere to the game.

If i had one feedback, its on the buttons on the water thing. I kept spam clicking the "create fire ship button", to have one asap, but i think the destroy building button gets back up once it's built and i kept accidentally destroying my buildings.

But overall cool game i like it

Developer

Thanks for playing! The buttons do reposition when you click on the build button. We probably should have greyed out/made the ship building button unselectable rather than hiding it so that didn't happen so often.

Really enjoyed playing this game and loved the mechanics. The fire was a nice touch to stay alert. Just had some issues with the camera and clicking on the right buildings.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! Sorry to hear about the issues with clicking the right buildings. Glad you liked it despite that!

This is the first game I’ve played this jam where I felt utterly glued to it. I played it all the way through and saved most of my guys, and the last couple minutes where everything kept setting alight despite all my firefighters were so intense!

I think that maybe the camera angle could be changed, as some buildings are difficult to click if theyre behind other buildings, and maybe some more visual confirmation of moving firefighting ships. Apart from that, awesome!

Developer

I'm glad you liked it! Someone else suggested a visual for where ships are going to so I guess that should definitely be a priority for any post-jam updates haha. We tried to make the clip masks for clicking on buildings a little lower in height to help with selecting buildings behind other ones but it definitely still has some issues on that. Maybe making the camera rotate to a more top down as you scroll out should happen faster, as right now the most top down view is so zoomed out that you can't really use it for construction particularly well.

I had so much fun trying to keep up with all the fires and launch space ships. Great job!

Developer

Thanks! :D

I spent a lot longer playing this game than I'd like to admit. I blink and half my factory was on fire. Brilliant I loved it and am at a loss for how addictive and polished it feels for a 4 day game.

A few points:

  • It could be clearer how much health my buildings had left.
  • I'd have liked to known which buildigns I already assigned firefighters too because when a lot of thigns were on fire I wasn;'t sure what I'd already assigned.
  • Sometimes the fire fighter ship's pathfindign had some difficulty navigating around each other.
  • It could be clearer how much of an impact and where cooling towers affected.

Still tho, absolutely loved this game, I only have this much to say with how long I played it. Great work!

Developer

Thanks! I'm glad you liked it so much. We probably should have changed the graphics for the count down bar when a building caught fire. That would probably have helped to make it more clear how long a building had. We also discussed having a visual for the cooling area but that was one of the things I ended up running out of time on.

A fun concept - I'm a fan of city-builder type games, so I quite enjoyed the playthrough. My main criticism would be that the moment-to-moment actions were a little slow, something extra for the player to manage I think would have been a good touch to give something else for the player to do (perhaps water resource management, between the remaining cities and the fire fighting ships?)

Other than that, I found that the buildings burned a bit quicker than I could react and get a firefighting ship over to them, but it was easy enough to rebuild so many times, I simply ignored the lower priority buildings to keep the ship yards up.

But overall, it was a fun game to play, and the light story element behind it was good too! Great job!
