How does your game fit the theme?
There is a countdown of 1 minute on the screen. When it runs out, you will have to restart from the beginning (the game is about knowing what to do so you can actually win in less then 1 minute. This game is NOT A PLATFORMER!)

Thank to Unity for the game engine, I guess?

I like the fact I could take notes on the notepad.
A lovely little puzzle/story driven game. Well done

The travel diary is the thing here. An actual notepad you can draw on, with a pencil and an eraser, sitting inside a game about remembering things between runs. That's the kind of idea that justifies a whole design. Opening it and finding Lukas Red travel diary written across the top immediately made me want to know who he was. The hand drawn cave art and that little creature have a lot of personality too, and putting a photosensitivity warning with a skip option in front of the flashing scene is thoughtful in a way most jam games don't bother with. One tension though. The clock keeps running while the diary is open, which means the mechanic the whole game is built around is also the thing that costs you the run. I opened it with 23 seconds left and was down to 12 by the time I'd taken in the first page. Pausing the timer while it's up, or slowing it, would let people actually use the tool you gave them. The other thing, and you've already spotted this yourself, is that interactables don't look interactable. I walked past the grey mechanism without registering it was something I could use.

Thank you for the deep feedback.

Just one thing though. I checked myself now and the timer actually stop when you open the notepad.

I thought exactly the same: the focus of the game shouldn't cost you the run. That's why I made the timer stopping when reading notes and taking them.

Perhaps you found a bug that rarely happens? I checked multiple times and it always stop when taking notes.

I dunno what the main character is, but I love their design. This is not a game to play when you’re winding down for the evening and wanting to shut your brain off haha. But i do love how you gave an in game note taking system. Reminds me of games I used to play back in the day where you would write the notes down on a notepad.

I wasn't able to finish it because I tend to get motion sick pretty easily with games like this, sorry about that. That's entirely on me. I have the same issue with lots of other games, so please don't take it as criticism. Maybe a slightly longer countdown would be nice.

I really enjoyed the notepad mechanic, sound effect and the overall story was super cool. Such a creative puzzle game!

Interesting concept. I struggled with the puzzles and had to use your spoilers to get to the end. Overall I think this concept fits the theme well. Narrative was pretty strong in this.

I enjoyed it. At first I thought i was just a random explorer but finding out I was the creature when I reached the bomb was honestly surprising. I couldn’t figure out the order to cut the wires, I tired the order of the names mentioned in the very first letter then tired the death order (I probably got that death order wrong). so I ended up just trying random things until I defused it. Well done!

You could have used the spoilers to find the solutions. The reason was how the signs were written: blue, red, yellow, green.
Thank you for your feedback

I really liked the focus on narrative in this game. I will admit I felt like the countdown was a bit more of a inconvenience than a challenge for the most part, but I still enjoyed the overall experience.

Cool game! It reminded me of firewatch! I think this game fit last years theme (loop) more than this years theme (countdown) but I enjoyed the story, and solved the puzzles. I don't think you made it too difficult, but maybe 2 hints for everyone problem instead of 1, because if someone misunderstood a hint then they were in trouble after that.

Overall a cool narrative game, with some polish this would be a great little game!

Developer

I didn't partecipated last year unfortunately. Yes, I actually made it easier because, everytime I make a game, a lot of people say it's to hard. Even like this a lot of people can't reach the end.
About the number of hints, actually, I put more then one for some puzzles. Of course, one is more evident then the others. But yeah it can be a good way to make it less easy to misunderstood.

Hey, I tried this game, here are some comments in no partikulaaris order:

  • The interactables should be highlighted better, i didn't realize you could interact with some things
  • A settings menu to control game volume would be nice, especially when time is ending that sound was quite loud
  • I sent the platform up without standing on it, so I had to restart to get it back
  • Fun idea to have that book to take notes, but I'm not very big puzzle game player so I thought at least for me the puzzles were a bit too much
  • I like the art style
Developer(+1)

Yes, you are right on everything.

I though the same thing on the interactables, so I tried making the background blue and them not blue. Perhaps I should make a small text appear when you are close enough? Saying "Interact" for example.

Puzzles might be a bit convoluted but overall very enjoyable.

SInce a lot of people are struggling with the puzzles, I will write here the solutions. Please do not read them if you didn't already completed the game. It would just ruin your experience.

First mechanism: click in this order, star-sun-moon-planet. Red the rock higher on the level to understand why

Second mechanism: today is 16/02. At day one, it was 15/02. Now it's day 2 (look the notes)

Third: you need to activate the lever in the first room, and only that. You will find a note of peter saying why.

Last one, the bomb: cut red and blue. You should try to understand what James Yellow means with the sign method. Maybe you sould what at the surname of the guys Lukas Red, Jones Yellow Henry Blue, Peter Green.

That's it. Hope you like the end of the game, it's the best part in my opinion

Nice game, I like that you have a notepad you can draw on to help with the puzzles. The puzzles were too hard for me however!

Developer(+1)

If you want, you can read the solutions in the comments. I swear the end is worth the effort :)

The first puzzles were nice, but I couldn't figure out how to get past the third trapdoor. Liked the atmosphere!

Developer (1 edit)

if you are someone who still has to play the game, DO NOT READ THIS COMMENT

You should activate only and exclusively the lever in the first room. It should then open.

I suggest trying to complete the game, the ending is my favorite part.

A fun little metroidbrania! I left a bigger comment on the specific game itself (Sorry, it's my first review so far)
