Nice game! The gameloop is solid and I liked the progressive tutorial, the end screen with the stats and the concept. I can tell a lot of work has been put into it. Building your own squad out of the body parts of your enemies, with each body part having diff stats is an interesting idea!
Like other comments have said, there is a lot that the player has to read during the tutorial to understand what's going on, and at least for me, I didn't feel the need to customise my own Franks and kept with the randomised default. I think lowering the word count on the tutorial, and maybe having smaller waves of specific enemies instead of lots of enemies at once could help to teach the player on the customising Frank mechanic. It also is quite chaotic, so I think waves would help as well!
But it's a solid game - with some more polish I think it'd be great :D

I love the art direction and the concept, though I feel many of the mechanics are left under-explained. For the longest time, I didn't realize that the purple guys were my allies, but that might have just been a me thing.

Those Franks never knew what hit em! (Not me, I died)

It was a little hard for me at first to get immersed into the game but I just kept messing around a little and started to get the idea and the gameplay loop. It is a solid game with nice visuals and music. Keep it up and good luck with your future games!

I liked that one could set presets of their own minions ("franks"?) behavior and that end game screen showed detailed damage and other stats :) It was fun, I did not had issues with understanding it (at least I think) after clicking through the tutorial. Having many enemies following me and throwing spells at them was an absolute mayhem after like a minute of playing :P Regarding other comments about background color - there is color brightness slider in settings, I placed it somewhere between 25 and 30% and it looked much easier on the eyes. I had fun playing it, definitely nice jam entry.

Developer

Thanks for playing!  I also  really enjoyed reveling in the chaos that starts to build up towards the end of the first round and onwards.  It seems most people skipped the tutorial, so we'll likely make it mandatory to go through it atleast once, and have an option to reset the flags in the menu somewhere.

Cool game! I was also a little overwhelmed at first, but there's really an impressive amount of depth you've added to this. As has been commented below, with a bit more balancing and polish there's a really cool game loop to be explored. Very nice take on the theme and good job overall!

Thanks!  I'm glad you enjoyed it.  It was really fun seeing this one come together, and am excited to expand on it a little after the jam.

I think this game has a ton of potential, though in its current form it was a little hard to understand everything. A concrete suggestion would be to tune down the number/speed of enemies at the very start so you have time to learn the mechanics and start to build your necro army without it being too difficult at the start. The way it is right now, i felt overwhelmed by enemies almost right away and so I couldn't really explore the mechanics. That being said, the core idea here - a bullet-hell/survivors-like where you can turn the dead bodies to your side-  is really original, and really cool, and would love to see it  fleshed out more. Nice job!

Developer

Thanks for playing, and I'm glad you enjoyed it!  I definitely want to expand on it a bit more.  We did notice the start was a little harsh, so I'll have to make sure that gets addressed in a post-jam patch

Love the gameplay loop. Tho I like the witch to go faster.

Also about the floor design. I would like that it has consistent color or hue so that it is easier on my eyes.

Overall this is very solid and would like to play more.

Developer

Thanks! I do agree that the player is a little slow, it's possible it's something we can adjust through gameplay or add a dash of some sort.  If the cranes were a little closer or something more to do in between would make it a little more interesting.

I struggled a little with the background as well, when it was at full brightness it really gave everything a camouflage effect. So we ended up giving it a slider and turning it way down.

I can see were this is going. I missed the tutorial as well, after which you game became a lot more clearer. The core is a fun gameplay loop that there might be infinte possibilities to extend on. Maybe 9 days haven't been enough, though :)

Developer

Thanks for playing! I definitely agree, and want to give it a good post jam patch after as well.  I think one of the features we'll add is a progressive tutorial system that defaults to on for new players and can be reset in the settings.

Very cool idea to charge up the areas and spawn your necro-teddies. I think you combined the theme and the necromancer fantasy very well.
...I just wish the shooting would be more precise.

Altogether a solid game jam entry, congrats to you and your team! <3

Thanks! Our team had a blast brainstorming about it and we probably spent a whole minute laughing about it as the idea came together.

I did think I was a little heavy handed in tuning the player attacks, as we wanted to emphasize the minions.  Possibly it's something we can improve with gameplay actions later on.

Nice core loop, i think the tutorial would have really helped me as well but i didn't read the comments first. I agree with the auto fire option, and also it could be cool to give you more of a reason to stop firing your weapon

Developer

Thanks for playing, and thanks for the suggestion!  As the third person to say it, I might have to make the tutorial mandatory  for the first run next time.  Also, great suggestion to have a reason to not fire, it would add a good amount of variety to the gameplay

After reading chesecomet's comment I went back to play the tutorial and there was a lot in the game that I missed when I just jumped in, especially the small arrow on the side to open the Frank's menu. With some ui and visual polish this could feel quite fun.

A suggestion from someone that has pain from  too much time clicking, maybe an auto fire would be beneficial so you don't have to hold down the mouse button

Developer

Thanks for playing, and thanks for the suggestion!  I did in fact think about that as we were wrapping up development and I was testing the game for a few long runs.  A toggle fire feature is definitely the first thing that gets added when I come back for a TLC pass after the jam is over.

While the game is in a quite unpolished state the core gameplay loop is in, it s great that it has a actual tutorias as i woulden't heve finished the game or found out how the minions function, also it's fun and not often that you get to play as a actual necromancer with a horde of undead. The graphics movement and some of the ui could use some work though  as well as the game beeing a bit shorter as it got kind of boring with ther beeing 10 creanes and the portal, finished the main game but didn t go on to endless

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing, and I'm glad you enjoyed it!  The lack of polish is a fair call, and I'll definitely address it in a quick TLC patch after the jam.  Also, maybe add a little more variety and progression.  Just a little something to keep the player coming back.  I also really enjoyed the necromancer theme, we all had a real good laugh when my teammate suggested it.  I'm glad that joy came across
