How does the game fit the theme?
TURNCOATS is an autobattler which makes Trust its central mechanic. Every mercenary has a Trust value: paying wages preserves and increases it, while withholding pay and witnessing allies fall reduces it. Low Trust weakens a unit, and critical Trust can cause them to permanently defect to the opposing team. Even enemy mercenaries can switch sides, so no team is ever truly secure.

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
We used Godot 4.7.2 and the GUT testing addon. Third-party assets used:
- Tiny Swords (Free Pack) by Pixel Frog: character, terrain, and UI art
- 400 Sounds Pack by ci: sound effects
- Free 25 Fantasy RPG Game Tracks Vol. 3 by alkakrab: music
- Shikashi’s Fantasy Icons Pack: item icons
- Medieval UI User Interface by ToffeeCraft: UI assets
- Weather Elements Freebie by Helton Yan: rain, wind, and thunder sounds

paying deadshot and the priest their wages and watching trust tick from 60 to 75 before the fight, then winning round one and immediately being offered sworn shields for minus ten trust or a bounty that costs the leader fifteen, is trust as a real currency and it's so clean. seriously polished

Really cool and polished game! I found myself playing round after round, until my star soldier (a Paladin decked out in full legendary gear) turned his back on me because I couldn’t afford his wage and lost xD Enjoyed it a lot. Good job!

Really liked the game! Its very fun might be the best looking games out there

Combining resource/wage management with autobattler troop betrayal mechanics is an absolute masterpiece of game design—the tension when your own army suddenly turns on you mid-fight fits the theme brilliantly! The visual juice, smooth UI, particle effects on the Loyalty Seal, and integrated leaderboard make this feel like a commercial-ready demo. Congrats on hitting top leaderboard ranks during playtests!

A few depth and clarity ideas for a full Steam release:

- Strategic Depth: Add more troop management mechanics (like unique unit traits, morale meters, or specialized gear) so squad building has deeper long-term choices.

- Visual Clarity: Add clearer visual indicators or color-coded outlines on the battlefield during chaotic multi-unit brawls so players can track unit health and sudden betrayals more easily.

- UI Polish: Tweak minor UI elements/menus for cleaner navigation during rapid deployment phases.

This is a really good game with a very unique premises and it's executed very well!

I like the gameplay loop! I like the idea of managing all your resources to make sure none of your troops turn on you

Great game visuals are so good

The animations on the Loyalty Seal’s effects were really well done, felt like it added a lot to the overall energy of the game. Nice job!

Such a polished game that even has a leaderboard(BTW I finished 56 wave and got #8 of 130). Had lots of fun playing it! Loyalty Seal it the best item.

An absolutely fantastic game! For this jam, I think this is probably one of the most interesting entries and one of the best interpretations of the theme. The trust probability mechanic runs throughout the entire game and plays a crucial role—even the betrayal of just one or two soldiers can have a huge impact.

My only real disappointment is that the troop management system isn't very deep. If there were more options and strategic choices when selecting and managing your troops, this could honestly be an incredible game.

Really loved it!

One of the most polished art styles I've seen during the whole game jam so far. Very fitting for the theme of the jam as well. Thought it would be to easy but then got obliterated suddenly :D

Awesome game and one of my favorites so far!

I got to rank #12 at Round 33.

I was about to say that at some point it got too easy, and then proceeded to get wiped out on the NEXT round LOL!

I read you guys are planning to make this into a full release – really looking forward to see where it goes.

Good stuff!

Didn't expect to find an autobattler. It's been ages since I've played one.

Good game, well done! I think I struggled a bit with not being able to tell what's going on on the field visually in some moments, but it was fun watching them battle x) (And then all of my guys switched sides even after always being generously paid lmao)

That was really cool! I thought I was unstoppable until all my guys turned on me haha

Extremely entertaining  and potentially addictive.

It is a nice mixture of Darkest Dungeon trust mechanics with Advance Wars. You can tell the amount of work just in the polish and juiciness of it. I loved been able to get "achievements" and the capacity of getting a bigger crew by defeating enemies. Amazing work!

simple but fun, good job :D

A really fun and well-made game! I’ve been enjoying this style of games a lot lately, so this one was right up my alley. :D

This is probably the best game I’ve tried so far in this jam!
The gameplay is smooth and rich, the UI is perfect, the progression is well-balanced, it’s really fun managing your mercenaries… And there’s even a leaderboard!!
Well done – I hope to see this game in the top 10.
