Description
DAW used:
FL Studio 25 (me) + FL Studio 26 (frozzy)
Synthesizer V Studio
Krita (for cover art + BG)
MS Paint (for concept art) (lol)

I wanted to make something odd-sounding... and soooo IIII did.....
inspired heavily by Persona3-4 OST and inspired not heavily by Earthbound (I don't think you can hear that)

rest of the submission's description is on the soundtrack page, wrapped in a pretty pretty bow, and there is a description for each track in the player too.

Message from the artist
my 4th OST jam and my 1st time not hating my tracks after submitting..... wowzers. I'd call that an achievement

Theme

Songs of a Forgotten World

How does it fit the theme?
...uh. Poorly. See, the entire jam I was hyperfocused on the "forgotten world" part of it, so technically there aren't any "songs" of any "forgotten worlds"... Buuuut the (hypothetical) game is about a character that has "forgotten" about the real world, and instead has been living in fantasy via lucid dreaming. They stumble upon the MEMORYWORLD, which holds MEMENTOS (small worlds of memories, repeating the same thing over and over, almost like a looped video) and MIND PALACES (individual people's minds, connected to Mementos). In there, they discover their ability to connect mementos to mind palaces, which they use to help people around them remember (..or forget) certain memories... (that makes the forgotten memories "forgotten worlds", by the way... Yeah. Yeah I'm sooo smart. I'm soooo clever.)

the goat returned with more peak.

DISCLAIMER - absolute banger 11/10 would recommend and glaze and the best song in the ost comp jam history and in human history I ascended while listening to it ok that's all

Life With Eyes Closed - classic pix style, immaculate drums, I can't not dance to this banger. Teto carried, and generally the relaxed but at the same time driving style of the melody is very uplifting and acts as a sick opening.

Watch The Time - ear candy with this panned bass synth. The drum pattern seems stuttering a bit and it gives it a laidback style- I KNOW THIS PIZZICATO STRING SOUND DUDE DON'T YOU DARE. And the saxophone is MAJESTIC here. Backup vocals give it even more life than it already has. Damn I should use vocals in the next jam this is so good...

Better You - the panned "OH MY GOD WHYMore hours" in the background sets this vibe of conversations between some random ppl and the whole thing feels very jazzy. The lyrics are pretty good as well, representing Jasper's thoughts really well.

SHUTEYE - sounds much more dreamy because of the pad in the background and major 7ths adding it this feeling of wonder. The drums are a bit less punchy here too, representing a more "flowing" state in the dreams. And the fact that the vocal chop is from "Better You" makes it feel like thoughts about today flow through Jasper's head, abstract and unclear. OH GOD THE BITCRUSH IN THE END AHHHH YESSSSSSSS

MEMORYWORLD - reversed instruments give it ethereal feeling and the whole intro just feels very abstract and flowing compared to other tracks, rgiht before the beat drops and I START DANCING AGAIN HOLY CRAP THIS BEAT IS SO GOOD!!!!!!!!!! The saxophone here brings me back to Watch The Time too.

Awkward Battle - the intro sounds very awkward indeed, I LOVE this characterisation of this battle so much!!!!! And HOLY CRAP WHY IS TETO SPITTING BARS EMINEM'S BEEN REAL QUIET SINCE THIS DROPPED. I like how the track sounds a bit tense WHILE keeping that awkward feel to it, it's just amazing work.

Dirty Mind - ...GET OUT very cool song! Love it! Love it! Love it! I adore it, even! W pix❤️‍🩹 But honestly the idea of THIS riff playing throughout the song is SO CREATIVE HOLY CRAP. And generally this slow rhythm and the occasinal guitar gives it just the required vibe.

I Love Blackmail!!! - the rhythm in the intro gave me HEAVY flashbacks from the roaring fraud, but as soon as the guitar appeared I knew that peak was coming. And I wasn't wrong - the drop was pretty damn powerful and the constant guitar riff throughout the song IS SO GOOD😭😭😭 Now that's myy style of a song. And the melody is quite versatile too. The part with slower rhythm and more heavy riffs feels SO POWERFUL GOD DAMN. And roaring fraud jumpscare in the end OF COURSE YOU HAD TO. Generally, has more tension than the previous fight, representing that this is a more serious threat to Jasper himself.

Forget It - I love the duality in the sound and a slight bit of desperation here, probably representing how they're desperately trying to remind Ares of good times. And that guitar... I'll be listening to this thing much more than I want to admit.

MINDPOLIZEI - HOLY BIG BAND. Occasional modulation of the key upwards brings it this more present feeling of dread. The synth arpeggios in the middle give it a bit more majestic feeling which fits a boss theme. The reprise of the phrase towards the end packing more tension with the guitars fits the escalation so well and modulations near the end are just a CHERRY ON TOP. Amazing work with different guitars once again I can't comprehend how are you guys even doing that holy crap😭

Shutdown - low piano entrance is an amazing way to represent dread and terror holy crap. And the glitchy sound effects are making this PERFECT for something that must represent a brain shutting down while you're inside of it. Already puts this antagonist as a scary ass threat.

Overall - idk how the HELL did you manage to do so many tracks bro I envy your skills😭 Also, the most creative OST I've heard yet throughout the jam, unsurprisingly, knowing who made it. The idea itself is VERY creative, the tracks themselves are EVEN MORE creative, although still in your general style and the mixing quality is something I never even dream of achieving... You MIGHT be the jam winner this time, BUT HEED MY WORDS, I'LL BE BAaaaaaaaaa-... *flies away team rocket style*

Absolute banger

It was really fun, and very interesting!
Lots of catchy tracks, and drooling with personality.  I think my favorite was MINDPOLIZEI, but lots of tracks caught my attention; well done to you two, it was great!

Disclaimer: even just making this is crazy but I love it. Let me use this time to say, I love the strong artwork and visual identity you've given us. Reminds me of Songkeepers, I think, which had a similarly strong visual identity/artwork for the characters.

Life With Eyes Closed: Yummy! Great sample use here, it adds a lot of depth.

Watch the Time: this is super groovy! Almost thought I heard some mixed meter at some point, but I'm not sure. That's a super impressive saxophone sound!

Better You: I switched to the player on the website so I can see the lyrics and descriptions and stuff. I'm glad, because now I have the context for this being the city theme! And what a city theme it is... vibrant and groovy. (ohmyghad why? four hours ago... what are these two gossiping about lol)

Shuteye: Another banger!

Memory World: I like how this stays true to the sound of the rest of the soundtrack while also entering a whole new world. Very cool! That moment around the 2-minute mark reminded me of the intro to Sunny by Boney M.!

Awkward Battle: I'm starting to become rather impressed with your abilities to churn out so much distinct music!

Dirty Mind: great work on this one--love the laid-back funk vibe.

I Love Blackmail!: Another good one, if a touch repetitive, but I don't mind so much. The ending is sick!

Forget It: Also quite the banger :)

MindPolizei: Loving the trumpets in this one! It's got a slightly dastardly vibe which I like. Almost serving evil pokemon team realness?

Shutdown: love the intensity here, but you still loop it into the existing sound world, which is fun. A bit short, kind of an abrupt end to such a fabulous album.

I'm sorry I had less track-for-track feedback, but I was honestly vibing with it the whole time, and really didn't have any notes. Everything was in its proper place, nothing needed revision. Impressive work, and keep writing!

Developer

Thank you for making such detailed review of our project!

"I Love Blackmail!!!" was a very rushed song, it was the very last song that needed to be done for jam, so that's why it sounds not as cool as the other songs.. I consider remixing this song someday outside of the jam to make it sound the way how it supposed to sound like, not the way how it ended up being.

Wow you go through so many different genres all the while keeping the style of the whole albums super consistent. My personal favorite "Better you," got my head bopping like a pigeon. Brilliant work man!!

Submitted(+1)

This soundtrack is very focused and consistent—it is easy to put on, let the tracks play, and vibe out to. My favorite tracks are MINDPOLIZEI and SHUTEYE. I appreciate the guitar and the extent of arranging in MINDPOLIZEI, which would fit perfectly in a Persona style game. Some parts of the soundtrack feel too heavily inspired by Persona and Jet Set Radio, but I don’t think that takes away from what you’ve achieved here. I really love SHUTEYE though. For me, it has a more unique sound in terms of harmony, texture, and overall style. Awesome work on this!

This is peak right here I'm afraid. I love the premise of the game and the visuals you provided to support it. The tracks themselves are also super high quality and fit together brilliantly. I really appreciate all of the effort that clearly went into this, thanks for sharing!

no comment here this entire ost was super fun to listen to! especially a huge fan of the stereo mixing/all the ear candy sprinkled throughout the ost, gives me heavy jsre+persona vibes!! the project page was very fun to navigate through as well, all around fantastic work both presentation and ost wise!! 👏👏👏

That’s really great! It’s awesome that you managed to create 12 tracks! It actually reminds me of Hideki Naganuma’s music and the vibe of Jet Set Radio.

This album was quite the fun ride!

I wish Kasane Teto's voice was louder in general when it comes to the tracks, but otherwise, the quality has been consistent and fun and I quite enjoyed listening to these compositions!

First track in and I can already see this in a rhythm game, like as a ranked beatmap on OSU, or in Friday night funkin'.

Crisp and OH SO STRANGE. The creativity is unparalleled from any other entries I've looked at so far, and it's all so MAGNETIC! You mentioned in a comment you know nothing about music theory. You don't have to have studied music theory in order to know it. Sometimes you just naturally pick it up and use the concepts yourself, without even knowing it. This all feels so coherent and intentional, as if you've studied theory for years —only, you've got the rare ability to sometimes tastefully ignore the conventions and rules usually spelled out throughout theory study. Keep up whatever you call this style, because you've got it DOWN!

this is awesome sauce... the quality of the production is very very impressive!! and i love how expressive all these songs are

my favs are Forget It and MINDPOLIZEI

Mom...I'm scared >_<

The music is very effective in creeping you out.  It's great at building up this tension with the sounds effects to create a cacophony of terrifyingly, chaotic noise. Great work!

disclaimer is the best part
okay, seriously, i KNEW it's inspired by persona from the very first seconds of "Life With Eyes Closed". persona soundtrack has a lot of catchy melodies that play through the entire song (that's called an ostinato if i remeber right???), and overall instruments selection is also gives it away. just like in persona there's a bunch of material to listen to, from calm background tracks, to sick battle themes with distorted guitars. as someone who has a persona hyperfixation i'm glazing this, everything sounds great, main vocals, backing vocals, trumpets, drums, basses, EVERYTHING! I love this sm

dont ask me I dont know anything about music theory in the slightest. I literally only know what a major and a minor chord is ✌️✌️✌️😭

(thanks for the comment!!! I will be checking your submission out on the 8th....)
