Description
I imagine this music to be for a adventure-puzzle game set in a world a long time after a great disaster. Nature has started to reclaim its territory but scrap from the old world lingers around the earth. You play as a descendant of the few survivors from before the calamity. Your family is a linage of musicians and so many melodies from the old world have been passed down to you for safe keeping along with an ancient instrument - a violin. Now you are tasked by your elders to wander the old ruins in search of various musical artifacts and the memories tied to them.
"Lingering Memories" is the theme for the main menu.
"Cathedral Ruins" is an area theme for exploring the ruins of a cathedral in search of a still working music box.
All music was made in Logic Pro.
Message from the artist
The main idea for the game is that each area is tied to a specific instrument that the main character is looking for, and since they themselves are wielding a violin each track becomes a combination of violin and the other instrument in question. Due to time I only managed to make one area theme for the ruins of a cathedral where you can find a music box, but i hope my idea comes across. I chose violin as the centerpoint mainly because of its strong ties to folk music. Since the game centers around reclaiming old melodies i felt like that was thematically fitting. The main menu theme (lingering memories) is therefore also heavily influenced by folk as a genre. Hope you enjoy :).
Theme
How does it fit the theme?
The game centers around reclaming melodies and musical artifacts that remain after a great disaster. The wold before the disaster would then be the "forgotten world". I also tried to include folk influences in the music to sort of tie the music also to our "forgotten world" - the medieval times and such.

Gorgeous ! Love that violin in "Lingering Memories", it sounds beautiful !
Thank you! :D
Lingering memories - Great rhythmic feel straight off, and a really nice violin sound. I like the slow moving bass against the fast plucking. Is that a Cajon VST I hear? Some ideas for developing the track could be some key changes, maybe a section in the subdominant (perhaps A+G chords), or a bridge with a different instrument, like a flute.
Cathedral ruins - Really strong core idea, and all the atmospheric sounds really complement it.
I love that the whole soundtrack would be a combination of the main character's instruments and the instruments of the characters they interact with. If you fancy a bit of a sight-reading roast I did a very similar thing!
This is a stunning, emotive, mysterious, and highly convincing work for a much sadder, more serious story. At the same time, it makes perfect sense for a puzzle game: I’m not fighting or jumping—I’m analyzing pieces—so your serene, evocative tracks fit the genre beautifully.
I actually played the violin myself! And thank you for the kind words :)
Both these tracks are great! I really appreciated how airy and spacious the cathedral ruins were. I'm a sucker for music like that with violins droning in the background. Reminds me of Nier's soundtracks that have a similar vibe.
Thank you so much :D
On both tracks you really nail the ambience, and the mixing of all the elements is done super well. I love the background textures, kind of gave me some Expedition 33 vibes.
That said, I would have loved to hear the "Lingering Memories" melody take me a few more places. That back and forth idea between the F# and the G is a really lovely line, but it loses its effect after a couple repetitions. As well, I find both tracks could use a bit more dynamic range. Everything about them is really quite lovely and almost hypnotic, but with no contrasting high and low points it can feel a touch stagnant after a little while. You can actually see in the waveform of the soundcloud track that volume-wise both tracks stay fairly even throughout.
All in all, the tracks are very very well produced and really do achieve that ambient melodic mood you were aiming for, so bravo!
Yeah I see your points, thank you for the feedback :)
Lingering Memories is perfect for the Main Menu, the ambience it generates really captures the flowing steadiness of an inviting screen with options, it is very pleasant and the violin theme gives that “a long time ago” feeling. I also relate to the Cathedral Ruins a lot, I can really feel the emptiness of the space, provided by the echoes of those languid strings. I suppose the vibraphone-like sounds evoke the lost music box the main character is trying to find. Both tracks produce very calming atmospheres, I like it a lot. Very well done :)
Thank you so much!
I really loved you first track. The mix was perfect, the melody was very emotional, so very good. That track is definitely the type of bgm that would have to stop and listen to when playing a game. The second track was also very good, very much carries over the vibe from the first track. Nice work!
Ah thank you! :D
Lingering Memories
Very nice background textures. I loved those glockenspiel/xylophone (couldn't guess what it was) notes.
Cathedral Ruins
Really cool atmosphere created by the background pads/strings textures
Overall, great soundtrack ! I really liked the ambience/vibe that I found very interesting. Good job !
Thank you! :)
Everything blends together well. The only criticism I have is that the opening melody in the violin feels too slow, which slows down the perception of the whole track. It felt like the melody wanted to go a bit faster but was being held back.
You mean on "lingering memories" (the first track) right? Do you mean the way it's played or the melody itself?
Yes, in "Lingering Memories." I think it may be both how it's written and the way it's played. It drags, partly due to tempo but it also viscerally feels like the player wants to play faster but something aside from the music is holding them back.
I see, thank you for the feedback :)
it's very well polished, everything come together great. The game concept is really cool to, would like to play such a game !
Thank you! :)
That is great mixing, I like how the melody is subtle and how it flows together. Great submission
Ah that's great to hear, thank you :)
I WANT MORE!
The instrumentation is awesome, lingering memories is definitely a highlight
Thank you :DD
The melodies present in this album are one of the most beautiful melodies i have ever heard. I am so happy that I got to even listen to this. My favorite track HAS to be "Lingering Moments". Amazing job.
This means so so much to me, thank you!
Beautiful work!
Thank you so much :D
