The art and dialogue system look super polished, and mixing talking with dodging is such a fun idea. Maybe the minigame repeats a bit too much, but sooo good overall! 👀

The combat option surprised me,
didn’t really expect that! pleasant surprise!

The art so good . Gameplay so nice . The sound so cool and Combat so right!

It seems you guys like Undertale a lot and I must say you nailed pretty well. It feels like a full game well made.

By the power of friendship: Well done!

Quite a nice short game with a good premise. The "combat" or rather interrogation system reminded me of kind of blend of Undertale/Deltarune together with Ace Attorney on needing to select the correct dialogue choices. Wasn't difficult to beat and I did enjoy all of the visuals and art being done by the team as well. The theme of Trust No One was present, clearly also with some of that questioning motives gameplay loop, but it didn't really feel like someone was screwing me over too much and NPCs were quite nice. Overall however, I think this is a great effort and considering the short amount of time and everything being done from scratch - well done and congratulations of completing the jam!

Developer

Thank you! Undertale and Ace Attorney/Danganronpa were huge inspirations!

The game looked so promising; its artwork and atmosphere at the start are great.

However, I did not get out of the cage; after 5 minutes, I decided to give up. Put this down to two issues. First, I was using the space bar, which meant I sometimes selected a first choice when I made a decision; I suggest either a small ignore delay or deselecting the choice to prevent quick selection. The second was that when I did get the correct selection, the amount of conviction loss- by my calculation- meant I could be at this for a couple of questions, during which I still wasn't making any progress.

One other thing to consider: your artwork was really nice, but on a 4K screen you see slight imperfections blown up.

Well done.

Thanks for playing! And I can definitely see why those would be issues. We definitely should’ve adjusted how the dialogue works a bit.

I was glued to my screen playing for like 30 mins, gotta say the narration is really enticing . Both the visuals and the mechanics work really well together, I personally think a bit more fine-tuning on the audio would elevate this even further. You all did a great job!

Developer

Wow, thank you so much!! I’m glad it was so engaging!!

The art looks fabulous!!! Love that the characters have different expressions. The flashing of the attack made it a bit hard to judge where the hitbox was. Love the mechanic though! Yayyy happy ending. Good difficulty progression with the enemies, good blend of storytelling and action. Overall really neat game! Great work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I was worried the character expressions wouldn't be noticeable, but I'm glad the hours it took to add all of them in wasn't wasted!

I love the gameplay, narration and also the art style of the game! Reminds me of Undertale!

I absolutely loved the whole game!! I feel like the only small improvement i would personally enjoy is sound effects for the attacks, and a bit of quiet background sound or music

Really liked the classic RPG feel. The handdrawn overall presentation gave it a really Good, and I liked the recurring NPC dialogue too. It all fits together really well. Nice job on the submission.

Developer

Thank you! :D

A nice story adventure game that has cool  bullet hell mechanics along with some interesting dialogue mechanics where you have to talk past the guards instead of fighting him .

Really sweet little project with a strong art style and a clear Undertale vibe. I liked the mix of talking and dodging, and the characters are charming enough that I stayed interested even when the minigame started repeating a bit too often. The audio and visuals are polished, and the whole thing feels like the opening chapter of a bigger story. Good work from the dev. (pls play my game)

Really good art style overall sound design. engaging gameplay i would say dragging. in.

Very cool game. The art work is awesome and also the Undertale inspired game play. For me it was quite to much of this dodging minigame, because it came after every action. So the minigame got quite boring after a while.

Just as an idea: you could remove the minigame when selecting the listening option and only use it if you choose the wrong talk option. This way you could also increase the difficulty to the minigame, so that taking the wrong talk option is more punishing.

But very good game, especially for a game jam!

Developer

thanks for the critique and for playing!

It has a very similar core philosophy to Undertale. Awesome work! :D

Developer

Thank you! Undertale was one of the inspirations!
