Mvmt 2 has a beautiful mood, making it my favorite track. I love tongue drum, and I like how everything else is orchestrated here too, especially the melody in the flute. I would consider mvmts 1 and 3 to have a similar logic behind how they are written. I love using an ostinato as the driving force in a piece, but it can become repetitive when there isn’t enough variation for long stretches of time. Some things I would try are: a change in register, chords, dynamics, time signature, or layering in another ostinato with an instrument that interacts with the original in an interesting way. Aside from that, I like your idea to use orchestration to develop these pieces, creating a distinct energy shift from section to section. Good work on this soundtrack :)

Greetings and here we are! Won't waste any time in saying stuff: THIS IS WHAT MY MIND SOUNDED LIKE WHEN I FIRST SAW THE JAM IMAGE.
Okay, now... Here comes the stuff lol
First track was a statement of how polished the whole thing was going to be. Simple chords, simple music, simple instruments, the most efficient combo. And I didn't say "easy". Very well built theme.
Second track was so beautiful, atmospheric, relaxing, and the sea waves in the background... You were drawing the whole landscape for the game. I'd just say, probably the flute player (and I'm not one, so it's just an assumption) would need some more time to breath in between one phrase and the other at times hehe
Third track, the catchy one. The time signature is just spot on. Love the main chord progression. The instrumentation is perfect. The claps were a pleasant surprise. What kind of set me off was the "reversed" timpani? And I don't mean it in a bad way, it works quite well the more you listen to it. The only thing I'd just like to point out was the major chord in the strings at 2:24, the main arpeggio playing in the background doesn't work with it. If you want to stick with an ostinato, then you can leave an open 5th chord, without adding any other note that makes it major or minor. But definitely, the major chord over the minor arpeggio doesn't quite work to my ears.
Loved the effort you put in it, it was pleasant to listen to, thanks for sharing!
this is beautiful!! this is a well composed submission, i also really like the mixing in this :D i think my fav song is Movement 3
i think it could've been more interesting with the progression of the songs. i also wish that there was more info about the game itself
I love that each movement has its own characteristic but everything blends well together. The mix is solid. The introspection in the first part of Movement 2 is well-executed and my favorite section of the whole OST. Great job!
I really liked this soundtrack! Movement 2 was my favorite I think - the melodies and harmonies were very nice! I really liked the brassy sound in movement 3 and how energetic it was, though there were times when i felt like the chords sounded a bit off with the melody. Movement 1 is bordering on a bit too repetitive for me as well, but i really liked your sound choices, the choir parts and how epic and fantasy-like it felt. In general I also really enjoyed that you had ambient layers in your tracks! For me they really add to the worldbuilding. Very nice entry!
I loved the 2nd track! The way the solo harp in the first half, with the metal pan accompanying it, was quite a nice textural soundscape. Nice countermelody writing, with the flute coming in as well, culminating in the orchestral writing. The first track had a nice "sunrise" vibe with the way the grooves were overlaying each other, and I liked how it ended with the plucking ostinato. I would have liked to see more thematic development in the 3rd track since it felt a bit similar to the 1st track with the groove layering (maybe a new section, chord variety, new melodic ideas, etc.). Additionally, the string samples sounded a bit too quantized and monotone in their dynamics. But other than that, I love your use of groove layering, and it perfectly matches the album cover and its vibe. Good job!
I really liked all the tracks! Perfect for the mood.
This soundtrack was a great listen! Each movement has its own distinct feel and they all sound really good in their own right. I found myself wishing for a bit more melodic development at times, but honestly this is the tiniest of nitpicks. I also understand if it was intentionally done this way to match your vision so please take this with a grain of salt. I really enjoyed listening to this, thanks for sharing!
All right 3 submissions! That work ethic and output is impressive in itself, definitely an ability I never seen myself having. I appreciate the outside vibe sounds you put in, wanna say up front.
Track 1: Instrumentation is spot on for me! Once you do that chorus jump I am pulled in. I also really appreciate the main theme being syncopated between 2 instruments, but I am in agreement SaikouGabu with wanting to hear your take on some variation there. (Respectfully, just gonna say the tambourine and shaker weren't too loud on my end, I feel like this sort of thing can be very dependent on what people are using to listen to your tracks with. Mastering is a profession....) You did such a great job with compositional variations and creating energy and moods, just a feel rhythmic variations. For the main theme switch up the velocity some maybe, instrumentation, or even different timbres or registers? String instruments can do harmonics yeah?
Track 2: Counter melodies and some instrumental ornamentation! Hell yeah! Yeah you could play with the EQ, range of notes, or instruments to get some more warmth from the swells, could be fun to explore. This track could be in a Final Fantasy or something. Loved it!
Track 3: Again solid with instrumentation progressing throughout your piece. I think you have a good ear for knowing when to bring instruments in and out. I think this track has great energy and like the first track I like the theme being syncopated between instruments, and again would be nice to have some variations. I think is a very subjective take for me, but I am very sensitive to high end sounds. I only bring this is up in the capacity of using MIDI sounds for high pitched windwoods. If you don't register any harshness to your ears on a re-listen then I wouldn't stress. It might be worth playing around with EQ, a bit of reverb, or changing varying velocities though to see if you can get a bit more personal touches to your preferences? But you solid composition that I feel clearly conveys your ideas and creativity.
Thanks for sharing your music, it was a pleasure to listen and even though I am an idiot I hope my comments were helpful!
Movement 1
Very pretty track, I really liked the harp.
The Tambourine and the shaker would need to have a lower volume, and the flute sounds a bit too rough. To make it softer, you could add an EQ and cut some high frequencies or add some reverb.
The theme was used a bit too much in my opinion. I'd have loved a variation for the more epic section, or a modulation on the second epic section.
Movement 2
Interesting play on the strings. I like how powerful they sound at key moment, but I think it should be more ponctual, they stay powerful for too long.
I also felt like the string chords were a little bit too cold. Some of the low to mid frequencies that are the foundation of the harmony were lacking a bit, and the sound could have used some more roundness. Maybe you could try to layer some instruments on the chords there ? Horns may be too powerful but you could try with bassoons.
Also a little detail I can't help to find funny is that your flute player must have had a rough time holding those notes for so long haha
Movement 3
Great track ! When I was about to say it lacked drums and a bass, they appeared, and when I was about to say it lacked horns they appeared as well ! Though like the others, I would have liked a bit more melodical development.
Overall, great OST. I would have loved some B sections with variations of your main themes. Maybe the reason why your themes seemed so repetitive to me is that they're not long enough. With a phrase twice as long you'd half the repetitions.
Nonetheless, great job !
These are very sweet songs; this is what it must feel like to be a medieval villager watching the sunset instead of being a hero as we are used to in the genre. I like the incorporation of ambient sounds.
- For the first movement, I felt the pacing was a bit slow at the start—somewhat repetitive—but the flute melody has such a beautiful, positive energy.
- The second movement—it’s a gem, so sweet and nostalgic; that description I gave earlier about watching the sunset comes directly from this piece.
- In the third movement, okay we have something much more adventurous—the percussion, the strings, and the BRASS, so subtle yet with an amazing effect. It is still relaxed; I don't feel like I'm on my way to battle a dark lord just yet, but perhaps I have the courage to stand up to a feudal lord.
pretty neat little jam! the fantastical/folk instruments fit the theme quite well, i especially really enjoyed mvt 3 out of them all! makes me wonder why the sunset is a lie 🤔
