Could you please give me a full critique of my game page, or even the game itself? You can be harsh, blunt, whatever. It would be really useful for me.

Yeah, you’re right. For some reason I’m not getting notifications on the site. I’ll replace it.

You used to land on a planet and walk across a surface.

Now the surface has its own schedule.

◆   ◆   ◆

VOLCANIC WORLDS

There is a real caldera in the terrain, and it erupts on its own — glowing rock thrown along arcs, ash, red underlight on everything.

It won’t punish you for landing. Eruptions open on a cooldown, and no throw is aimed at your feet or crosses the pad.

◆   ◆   ◆

ICE WORLDS

The cryo storm comes to you.

Outer band takes your visibility. Middle band takes your footing. The eye lifts you off the ground.

There is always a way out: the outward pull is slower than a walking pilot. That invariant is checked on every build.

◆   ◆   ◆

LAVA WORLDS

The shore moves. The crust heaves.

◆   ◆   ◆

THE LANDING THAT NEVER RAN

The descent sequence was written several versions ago. Eight stages, a rig, landing-site search.

It never executed once. The router logged “nobody answered” every single time, then opened the world with the ship already parked on the ground.

Now you actually come down under thrust: gear, flare, struts compressing, dust, engines spinning down.

No black screen. No white flash.

◆   ◆   ◆

MUSIC THAT KNOWS WHEN TO STOP

Five tracks plus the title theme. One to four minutes between them, sometimes longer — silence, not dead air.

Combat takes the music immediately, but only real combat. One distant contact is not a fight.

Coming out, you get a five-to-ten second tail instead of a cut. Never the same track twice in a row.

◆   ◆   ◆

ALL FIVE SHIPS REBUILT IN BLENDER

Every animation ported. Silhouettes, scale, hitboxes and balance untouched — projectile origins didn’t move.

◆   ◆   ◆

ALSO IN 1.6.8

  • Positional audio in space
  • Hitboxes on ground objects and the lander
  • A suit built for each biome
  • Terrain at three scales on every planet

If a storm ever traps you with no way out, tell me — that one is supposed to be mathematically impossible.

Voidfall - World Gen 2

I’m continuing to rework the world generation system.

Planets now have new environmental parameters:

  • Atmosphere
  • Atmospheric pressure
  • Temperature
  • Spacesuit requirements for dangerous environments

Planets should now feel like more than just different backgrounds — surface conditions actually affect exploration.

This is only part of World Gen 2. More world variety and hazards are coming.

PC: https://nooxax.itch.io/voidfall

This is a major update focused on combat, progression, planets, bosses, and balance.

Main changes:

  • Smarter enemies with much better aim
  • Enemy missiles with lock-on warnings and seeking behavior
  • Flares to break missile locks
  • Defensive builds rebalanced
  • Module farming heavily nerfed
  • Boss contracts unlocked by pilot level
  • Real moons orbiting planets
  • Day and night landings
  • Planet gravity
  • Major combat and progression balance changes

If you try the update, feedback is very welcome.

Someone asked for a mobile version of Voidfall.

So I made one.

Voidfall is now playable on Android, with mobile controls and an interface adapted for phones.

If you wanted to explore the sector away from your PC, now you can.

WHAT IS VOIDFALL?

Voidfall is a free 2D space game about exploring an unknown procedurally generated sector.

You fly between planets, take contracts, transport cargo, hunt targets, fight enemies, explore strange anomalies and land on planets to continue exploring on foot.

Every sector is generated from a seed, meaning planets, ships, creatures, structures, asteroid fields, nebulae and many other things can be different between runs.

SPACE AND PLANET EXPLORATION

In orbit, you can:

  • Take contracts at outposts
  • Hunt bounties
  • Transport cargo
  • Fight enemy ships
  • Explore anomalies
  • Discover black holes, pulsars and wormholes
  • Unlock different ships as you progress

You can also descend through a planet's atmosphere and explore its surface.

Different worlds have different structures and environments.

Volcanic planets can contain launch complexes.

Ice worlds can have abandoned research stations.

Other planets have their own structures, creatures and hazards.

A LIVING SECTOR

Things can happen even when you are not looking for them.

Asteroids can enter a planet's atmosphere and crash into the surface.

Some creatures attack you.

Some defend themselves.

Some simply ignore you unless you give them a reason not to.

The sector does not exist only for the player.

DIFFERENT SHIPS

As you progress, new ship hulls become available.

Each ship has advantages and disadvantages.

More speed can mean less durability.

More cargo can mean worse handling.

More firepower can mean sacrificing something else.

There is no perfect ship.

Choose what fits the way you want to play.

NOW ON MOBILE

The Android version includes mobile controls, phone-friendly UI and gameplay changes designed to make Voidfall comfortable to play on a touchscreen.

The PC version is still available too.

Voidfall is completely free.

Enjoy the mobile version, and feel free to leave feedback if you find bugs or have ideas for future updates.

Thank you so much for all these bug reports. The game will definitely get better if more people give feedback like you do!

I always ask people to leave feedback, but a lot of them just don't bother, so I really appreciate you taking the time to report everything you find. Thanks again! I'll get these issues fixed.

Thanks, this is a really useful report. You found a real bug.

The ammo pack is broken. You didn't miss anything — right now there's actually no way to use it. I'm fixing it so H can use an ammo pack when you're low on ammo, and you'll also be able to use items directly from the hold.

Also, the Trauma Kit description saying "Use with I" is wrong. It should be H. I only opens the hold.

About the objective telling you to take a contract: I need to check that one. When it happened, had you already completed and turned in the contract, or were you still carrying it? And was the target in the same star system or a different one?

That'll help me figure out if it's the bug I think it is.

Thanks again for reporting this.

If you've played Voidfall, let me know what you liked, what felt confusing, boring, too difficult, or uncomfortable to use. Even a short comment would help me improve the game.

I recently released a big update for Voidfall, my free 2D space game.

You explore a procedurally generated sector, fight enemies, take contracts, trade cargo, land on planets and find strange things in deep space.

The update improves combat, ship movement, radar, docking, music and visual effects, and makes black holes, pulsars and wormholes easier to encounter.

I'm looking for a few people to test it and tell me what feels confusing, boring, broken or unbalanced. Even a couple of minutes would help.

I recently released a pretty big update for my free game, Voidfall, and I'm looking for a few people to test it and tell me what still feels wrong, confusing or broken.

Voidfall is a 2D space game about exploring a procedural sector, taking contracts, fighting enemies, trading cargo, landing on planets and finding strange things in space.

The new update adds and changes quite a lot: better enemy combat ranges, improved dash and afterburner, smoother camera movement, a radar legend, better alerts, more common black holes, pulsars and wormholes, surface music, tractor-beam docking, new engine and dash effects, and more visible weapon animations.

I've tested it a lot myself, but at this point I really need fresh eyes.

If you like testing indie games, even a few lines of feedback would help a lot. You can tell me if something is boring, confusing, too easy, too hard, broken, or just feels bad.

The game is completely free.

I spent this week rebuilding the itch.io page for Voidfall, a free space exploration game where every ship, planet, creature, and sound is generated at runtime from a single 32-bit seed. The game itself hasn't changed much—the page just wasn't doing it justice.

Here's what changed:

  • A new banner. I didn't have one before, so the top of the page was literally just the title in the default font.
  • A new cover image, taken from an actual asteroid impact instead of a staged screenshot.
  • Eight screenshots instead of four, reordered so the first one is the only image that's still recognizable as a thumbnail. Most of my favorite "beautiful black space" shots all looked like the same dark rectangle in the gallery, so they had to go.
  • An animated GIF of an asteroid impact at the beginning of the gallery.

There are still two things I know the page doesn't show well, and I'd rather get feedback than guess.

First, there's nothing showing docking, the hangar, or the cargo hold, so the game's progression loop is basically invisible. Second, almost every screenshot has the ship sitting at zero velocity, which makes the game look much more static than it actually is.

Page: https://nooxax.itch.io/voidfall

The question I'd love your opinion on is this:

Without reading the description, does the first screenshot tell you what kind of game this is? If not, which screenshot would you put first instead?

Voidfall has no textures, no models and no sound files in the project. Every ship, nebula, creature and sound is built at load time from a single 32-bit seed. Same seed, same sector, on any machine.

That constraint decides a lot for you. A ship cannot be drawn, so it has to be described: hull length, how many segments, where the engines sit, how the plating catches light. Once it is described rather than drawn, the same description makes five hulls instead of one, and they can differ by something meaningful instead of by colour.

This month I pushed it down to planet surfaces. Each biome now assembles its own site out of parts: a volcanic world builds a launch complex with a rocket on the pad, an ice world puts a research station up on stilts, a toxic world lays industrial pipe rings. The generator places them on real terrain, so it has to solve for footing on a slope rather than floating a building over a hill.

The part I spent longest on was asteroid impacts. Getting the blast to read was easy. Getting the crater to look like it belonged to the planet was not. The first version was a flat polygon drawn over the disc, and it looked exactly like what it was, a sticker. It did not compress near the edge, it ignored the day and night line, and it sat still while the surface scrolled under it. The rewrite treats the mark as a set of points on the sphere instead of a shape on the screen, so foreshortening, shading and rotation all fall out of the geometry rather than being three separate approximations.

Thirty second clip:

Happy to go into any of it in more detail.

Voidfall is a free space survey game for Windows. You fly a sector, take contracts, and land on worlds that were not there until you arrived.

A couple of days after I put it up, someone sent five dollars for it. The game is free. There was no name on the payment, so I never got to say thanks. This update is me trying to make it worth the five dollars.

What is new:

Planets grow their own architecture per biome. Volcanic worlds get a launch complex with a rocket standing on it. Ice worlds get research stations up on stilts. Toxic worlds get industrial pipe rings. Anomalous worlds get structures that do not quite obey the geometry around them. Landing puts you in first person on the surface.

Asteroids now hit planets. The rock heats up and trails fire coming through the atmosphere, the strike throws a flash and a shockwave, and the shockwave will physically shove your ship if you are close enough. The crater sits on the sphere rather than on the picture, so it compresses toward the edge of the disc, darkens through dusk, and turns out of sight with the planet before coming back round.

Wildlife got real behaviour. One creature winds up and lets go of an expanding energy ring you can dodge. Another curls up and launches itself along one line you can step out of. A third has somewhere to be and does not care about you.

Five ship hulls that unlock as you rank up, with tradeoffs that cost you something. Contracts that scale with your level. Jobs now tell you their second condition before you accept, and what it adds to the pay. Full English and Russian.
