How does the game fit the theme?
You are locked in an office solving a murder entirely through a telephone, and every person on the other end of the line has a reason to lie to you.

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
All code, 3D art, portraits and UI were made during the jam.

Sound effects are a mix of free sounds sourced online and recordings I made myself. The in-game documents were provided by EdduDesign (Arquivos Confidenciais). The rug texture is from Sketchup Texture Club. Music is "Night on the Docks" and "Bass Walker" by Kevin MacLeod (incompetech.com), both copyright free.

Developer

Thanks! Means a lot coming from you, loved your game!

Well if any game here feels like a winner, this is the one.

Amazing stuff through and through. I wouldn't even mind paying for a full version of this. My only complain would be that the game just dump a lot of info on the player at the very start, making it very hard to digest everything. I think I would have prefered for the crates to be delivered after some key phone call.

Still, excellent idea, perfectly put together. Love the implementation of the theme through the phone calls and the font changes in the testament. All great ideas.

Developer

Thanks a lot for the kind review, we are planning on doing updates for the game with more content and better quality of life!

Incredible game. There's so much good stuff here, with all the systems for picking stuff up and placing things. This was really well thought out and at first I was like there's too much stuff to go through but I kept combing through as I started making connections it was really cool. The props are really nice, good font choices, really great usage of different styles of paper and the materials look so good. I liked the random phone calls and the ability to skip text typing out during conversations. There's so much good and I think everyone will talk all about them so I won't hammer on them too much. Instead I'll give you an idea of what could be good improvements:

When activating the desk all the notes/pictures were upside down, it would be nice to either rotate things in the orientation you are standing when you set it down, or have them orient automatically to the side the desk is activatable from. I really liked the ability to pin stuff to the board, it would have been nice to have the ability to write my own notes within the game and stick them up there. There are some typos here and there, nothing too crazy I think I maybe counted 3, but at the same time those typos could be from the characters. I think the hitbox for the phone could be better, like a box around it so you don't have to be so perfectly aimed at the receiver. I think it would have been cool to add in the actual usage of the rotary phone instead of just pressing buttons but I could see why you might leave that bit of polish out. I think the picking up and putting stuff down was pretty satisfying but when placing stuff it was really easy to get them floating in funny ways, not a huge issue at all but just kind of funny. Being able to move the mouse around while inspect to either turn pages over or pan around the pages would have been cool, and you could have hidden interesting details on the backs of stuff that way, or even had it as a note surface where you could type your own notes on them. The chairs and boxes kinda got in the way when walking around the office but I supposed that's a little realistic, but maybe being able to move through them would have been fine for this. The last thing was when carrying objects around they were a little jittery while moving, not game breaking at all but maybe could be solved through a different style of parenting or using a different update loop (physics process vs process), I dunno.

Great work overall on this, it feels really complete and polished.

Love the game! The portraits, visual style, red phone accent. Mechanics are great as well. Honestly, I can see it as a fully autonomous game that can be sold on Steam

The overall atmosphere and visuals are great on this, and the implementation is very polished for only a week of work. Great job.

Developer

Thanks a lot! Will check out your game, sadly can't review now, because I'm being rate limited, but will for sure rate your game!

Oh my... The amount of work that went into this is so clearly visible. Stellar job.

Wow, incredibly Polished, well made, Gorgeous and clever! Cant believe this was made by 3 people! I think what i liked best how dedicated you stuck with your concept and created a tangible Atmosphere! I can defnitely see, why this is under the most popular entries of this Jam, very eye catching.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks! Unfortunately itch.io rate limited me after all the reviews I left today, so I can't post one on your page right now, I did rate it, though. If you want, hit me up on Discord and I'll send my feedback over there!

Thanks a lot! Liked your game too, really cool! One of my personal favorites of this jam

Really cool, i love this game's design and it really makes you feel like a detective!

Submitted(+1)

Very well made . I liked the mechanic of spreading the papers looking for clues it worked smooth.

Developer(+1)

I think I spent half of the jam just on the interaction system, glad you liked it!

Great execution! Small nitpicks: middle mouse to move board around I'd replace with lmb to drag around. makes it easier one button experience. The environment is pretty dark, would have been fun to have the light more available. Would have killed for a tiny bit of animation on teh curtains like a wind or something of that sorts to build atmosphere further or a siluethe sometimes going behind the door. Not being able to take out materials onto the desk while in the top-down view was annoying. The desk chair being in the way also something I'd try to move away, alas big nitpick since you have the topdown view to simulate that. The ad phonecall for subscription was a good break!

Developer

Thank you so much for the in-depth review! I'll note these changes to include in future versions of the game, especially the panning and picking up objects while on top-down view!

This is very well done. The design language is deliberate, the story is thought-through and the use of colors (red for the phone, monochromatic grey for the environment) make the game visually appealing and unique. In addition the light shining onto the desk emphasizing where you’ll be spending your time is good.

The unique art and font used for the documents is also well done and blends together nicely. No-one document reads the same.

The game feels simple in nature, yet deliberate in execution. I am in awe, there’s a lot I can learn from this.

You really nailed the 1920s film Noir visual Style

The visuals, the art style, the audio, the story, are incredddiiible!

There were a lot of content and clues that added depth to the game. The contrast in color between the phone and the room was a smart choice too! Great game!

This was a great game. I watched it a bit at work while it was being streamed and tuned out when i saw the answer was gonna be put in chat. I think i spent a solid hour on this one alone. Combing files. Connecting the dots. I'm so impressed how you were able to tie everything together in such a detailed way.

Like, legit i wanted to go throw on a trench coat and stand outside of a diner around 11PM, smoke a cigarette and monologue about the darkness of the world.

Like, this being 2 people over the course of the week having this much polish is just impeccable.

I don't really have much notes other than i got spam calls a few too many times.

Really really excellent work here!

Hands down, Really Impressive

I loved this! So far up my alley it's approaching harassment.

The investigation board is so well implemented, I adored that mechanic, I've always wanted to make one of those!

Overall art style captured the noir aesthetic well, but the photograph illustrations stood out as especially gorgeous. Lovely work by the artist on those!

There was so much content for a jam game, mountains of documents, all the phone calls, really impressive how much you managed to fit in in a week.

The mystery itself was fun to piece together and sort through all the evidence and witness dialogue on calls, it was satisfying when certain things clicked (like figuring out the police source and the links back to the recorded call etc.).

Greatly enjoyed this game, thank you so much to the team!

(one thing that could have been clearer was if I got the answers correct or not? based on the call I think I did but there was a certain ambiguity and I expected some sort of ending, but I think it just stopped on the "Thank you for playing!" screen? not a big deal because I enjoyed the process but some extra confirmation would be nice!)

No! Thank you for making!

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

Also, what is this? A crossover episode??? My game is based on green banker's lamps showing up in games/tv/movies etc. all the time haha

Developer

You got it right! Thought the call was confirmation enough, but for sure in a future version I will spice up the ending, and thanks a lot for playing!

I don't recall the exact wording, but I think the client mentioned something about verifying it tonight or tomorrow that made me think there would be some confirmation/rejection.
