How does the game fit the theme?
The game is built entirely around the concept of distrust. The player is a lumberjack trying to escape a war-torn country, but he cannot trust the traders who scam him, the civilians who might be spies, or even the Mariner who sells the ferry ticket. Hidden mines and artillery strikes add to the paranoia.
What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
I made everything from scratch. I didn't even use assets.

Gameplay is really cool and fun but didnt see the trust no one theme
Really like the art and music. The game is pretty hard tho!
I felt this could have been two separate games. There was the more cozy wood collecting aspect and the frantic combat aspect. I kept getting killed trying to collect wood so having to switch modes took some adjusting. I agree with others, the map was HUGE. Without an actual guide, it was easy to get lost. The controls, though unconventional, actually reminded me of the first Resident Evil so I was able to adjust rather quickly. Nonetheless, it's a nice entry and impressive you made all this including assets in the 7 day period!
It was hard, thank you for your feedback!
Congrats for making this game by yourself, but i would also like to give some constructive criticism: I would have prefered if the map was smaller, it's easy to get lost and it's also quite empty. I didn't know at the start that i could carry wood and sell it, so it would be good if there was a npc at the start that would explain it. There also should be a visual indicator if you are getting shot and bullets should be more visible, they blend with the environment.
The controls were really impressive for a top-down shooter and it took me a while to figure out how to fire haha. The map design was also great, and it was always exciting to stumble across someone new. Great job!
I think using the W key combined with mouse movement to switch perspectives is the best method. I also really like the sound effects in the game; they have a good rhythm. I have given you a rating.
I'd like to hear your opinion about our game. Thank you!!

Really fun experience with a cool atmosphere! Got a bit lost on the big map and struggled with the controls at first, but great job on this game!
Good job on making the game, especially alone! I struggled a bit with the controls and understanding what i needed to do, even with the tutorials. (Same as another comment, i took a while to understand that i needed to reload first)
Nice work on the game!
First, some constructive feedback: I think the game could've had better UX. For example I didn't know I had to reload the gun manually at first, I just assumed I had no bullets LOL. Also, I feel the map was too large and empty. The mariner/boat area was easy to miss. I would have had put it nearer to the spawn point and make it obvious that that was the goal from the get-go. Lastly, it's a shooting game, make the bullets huge! Highly recommend you check out Vlambeer's talk "The Art of Screenshake." It's still pretty relevant 11 years in.
Now to the good bits: nice work on the pixel art and the Hotline Miami vibe you got goin. Props for making everything from scratch! Plus points as well on the Tutorial scene - always great to see one in a jam game and not rely on walls of text. Appreciate adding in the zoom function too, as well as the gameplay video on your page.
Keep it up!
I wanted to maintain realism in terms of bullet size; they’re already huge in relation to the player.
Great effort especially for a game made by one person. The choice of music complements the pixel art style, but I agree that movement is a bit hard to get used to as others have commented. I also agree the world being quite large to walk around. Another thing I would like if there was a fade overlay for the shop or something to make the shop UI stand out a bit more from the background.
This was a fun game. I enjoyed the shooting mechanics, which were rather polished for such a short amount of time. The movement controls are different from the usual and while difficult to control to start with, you quickly got used to em. The music is goofy in the best way possible and the graphics have personality. The only issue I found in game was having the world being so large. I found the world was too large to walk around in. While impossible for the game jam, a vehicle could be a good addition if you wish to continue development. While automatic pistol works fine for the game jam, I think adding a larger weapon variety could improve the game significantly, still assuming you continue development.
This is quite a good game even despite the issues. Please continue to make games!
The game was fun and goofy with the audio. I liked it, but hope that was what you were going for. I have a lot of similar takes as other players here. Love the art that was made for it. The animation was cool and very much like hotline Miami. Having someone chase me with an ax after talking to him was hilarious. Definitely fit the don't trust me theme.
Game's was fun to play ! I enjoyed the war aspect, as well as the theme it convey, great job overall ! :D
The game's very fun! It reminds me a lot of Hotline Miami. I would have probably zoomed out a bit from the player and changed the moving scheme to be independent from the player's facing direction. Overall good!
The concept is simple but interesting. It was fun walking around and exploring the map. Maybe I’m just not used to this style, but the controls, specifically player movement, felt a bit unintuitive. I really liked how you handled the animations, great job!
Good shooting mechanics and sound design but I'm not sure why you needed the movement to be different to Hotline Miami. Also the map is extremely open and empty, aside from landmines that insta kill you and people you can talk to but do nothing. Also the Mariner seemed to be the main goal but not only was he hidden far away in one of the four directions but also the ticket costed 2000 and I didn't see a way to earn more than 200.
Thanks for the feedback. I simply overestimated the size of the map I needed. By the way, there are crazy people among the normal people there. And yes, I should have added a sign indicating the mariner's location.
Wow, so fun! I love this kind of 8-bit music! If you have time, you're also welcome to try our game — we look forward to your rating! :D/jam/brackeys-16/rate/4952908
good game and good job
It seems like you were able to add alot of complex systems into this game. The controls are hard to get used to. I would recommend making it so that the WASD controls consistently move the character in the same directions instead of changing with the characters rotation. When a player plays the game with no context of what the game is about, it can be difficult to understand what the goal is. Other than that, good work
Controls were really hard to get used to. Gameplay is quite deep. I appreciate the handcrafted artstyle. Good job!
I decided to create a unique movement mechanic instead of copying Hotline Miami.
