How does the game fit the theme?
Characters try and sell you their goods, but every character has the chance to be lying. You have to carefully read what they tell you to determine whether it is worth buying. In this way, you cannot trust any of them!
What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
The tiling textures used for the texturing on some of the sprite art is not my own, as well as the sound for the door opening.

A great and funny game! i liked the art style the most and the funny jokes! my favorite part is what happens when you fail, really reinforces the theme!
Thank you so much!!
Hahaha, incredibly entertaining! A really cool concept and a very stylish art style! It was hilarious when the "pile" came out to sell me a shrimp xD
can you believe a rice fried this shrimp??
thank you for your kind words!
Really cool game! The artstyle is really charming, and the game fits the theme well! All the random characters combined with the humorous writing got quite a couple of laughs out of me! Everything felt very polished, and I had a lot of fun playing this one! Keep it up :D
That means a lot to hear, thank you very much!
Really enjoyed this one! Every character brought something fun to the experience and gave me a few good laughs
Thank you, I'm glad to hear that!
This was a very enjoyable game. I liked all the fun lore for each of the objects. I somehow barely managed to make it to the end of the game. My only real suggestion is an option to speed up the dialogue. Great job!
Thanks, I appreciate hearing that! Definitely planning on adding that to the game after the jam is over haha
The art looks amazing and charming, the gameplay is simple but works well. It would really be useful to have in-game audio settings because the dialogues' sounds were a little annoying and had to turn down the volume of my pc. Some music and other sound effects would make the game feel better. I couldn't play it in full screen since there wasn't the setting nor the button on the itch page: you can enable it under Embedded Options > Frame Options > Full Screen Button.
Overall really nice game! Well done :D
Thank you very much, and yeah audio was one of those things I just ran out of time on, definitely want to make those changes when I can!
And thank you again for the full-screen recommendation! I've turned that on now :D
Really nice art and funny dialogues!
Thank you so much!
Very good game, enjoyed the gameplay a lot! The dialogues were very funny and interesting to read. My only suggestion would be to put some kind of song in the back and lower the sound of the text, it can be a bit annoying.
Thank you! Definitely didn't allocate enough time to the audio haha, I definitely plan to change the talking and add a background track.
Super charming. Your writing and artstyle work well together.
Gameplay itself seems simple, but confused me. Other pawn shop simulators I've played during this jam were pretty much entirely random when it came to their client. Your question system seems to imply that there is a way to guess if someone is honest or not but I've not found it. I think it would be great to clarify what indicate that a client is lying.
Although I must say it's a nice change of pace to actually have a way to tell which client is telling the truth, even if it eluded me. Excellent way to spice up the gameplay, especially since your clients are handmade and not randomly generated. Very nice writing on your part, loved the Christmas tree.
Solid entry, very nice job.
Thank you so much! And I think that confusion you had is the biggest thing I wish I had changed before the game jam ended haha, the idea was that each character has the chance to be telling the truth or lying, and their dialogue will change depending on which is which, and it'll be based around incorrect facts in their dialogue or contradictions in their words to figure it out. Unfortunately I needed a better tutorial explaining that part :p I appreciate your comment!
I see, interesting ! So it's basically some sort of trivia quiz paper please ?
I'll have a second look at the game now that I know this, thanks a lot for the answer. I appreciate it.
Basically! There are some that are more difficult and might take repeated interactions with them to learn their tells, but I wanted a lot of it to be around trivia. Hopefully it flows better with that clarification :D
It absolutely does ! I've managed to get fired thanks to your explanations.
Very flavorful idea. Before that I took all the historical mistakes for jokes. What a clever take on the theme.
I've added a point in gameplay and enjoyment. Thanks again and have a good one.
Real cute artstyle with unique gameplay! It was pretty fun too! great work.
Thank you!!
I guess I echo everyone when I say, what a fantastic art style. The sfx is pretty good, but I didnt hear any background music.
I'd like it if you could skip dialogue, and a back option when you press barter or ask a question, but i guess those are polish details you will add after the jam. Had a fun time playing your game Pawn Scum (which is not a chess game where your pawns betray you, like I thought it would be from the name lol)
Thank you! Yeah I ran out of time to add background music :p Definitely a lot of things I wish I had time to do in retrospect but it was interesting to learn how to budget my time. Thanks for playing!
Really cute art style and I thought the concept was really fun and clever! I agree with a few others posting about sfx/music and I think a tutorial/example would be great to be able to have some indication if they were lying, but overall i really enjoyed it (:
Thank you! Those are definitely things I hope to add after the game jam period is over haha, just ran out of time within the week of the jam :p
The art style is fantastic! Loved the randomness of the clients and what they offer you XD
I'm glad you liked it!! :D
The game looks fun and nice, but the sound of the characters dialogue is hurting my ears :'(
I'm sorry about that D: Admittedly this was my first time trying to set up that kind of sound generation in Godot, I can try to refine it after the jam is over :p
Very interesting game! The visuals are very cute. My only issues would be no way to go back on a decision (for example, I missclicked to ask a question and ended up having no money to buy something). Some background music would also improve the experience a lot. Overall, a great game!
Thank you! And I agree, those were features I wished to add but just ran out of time to do so :p
your game reminds me a lot of mine! i found the characters really amusing and cute. overall, i love it!
the art itself is very cute. i personally liked what you did with the sky, the way it serves as an indicator of how much time's left till the end of the day in question. my favorite character (and the one i found funniest) was the flea.
the only thing this game could use would be some music and a way to skip some dialogues, cause sometimes npcs come back and tell you the same things again, and it'd be useful to have a skip function. that last thing's just a quality of life improvement, though, so, for a week, this game's impressive! congrats!
Thank you for your review, I'm glad you enjoyed it! I agree with both those criticisms, I wish I had allocated myself some time to make background music but it slipped through, and a dialogue skip option would've been useful in hindsight. I look forward to checking out your take on a bartering game!
That was so good! I love all the characters. Made me chuckle!
Thank you so much!!
love the art style. i like the gameplay too. at first i was skeptical to buy anything. but after day 1 of not buying anything, day 2 i try to buy everything but not enough money (can only buy 1) haha! just 1 thing, if the text can be skippable, that would be nice. since maybe some player like to replay from beginning when they made a mistake.
Thank you! And I agree, I'll probably add dialogue skipping after rating is done, I appreciate the feedback!
Very cute game. The art style is charming and the items and there description is pretty fun.
For me it was hard to tell when they are lying. At first I thought everybody was lying till I realized that the items description not have to fit to the real world :D Maybe you could add a example at the beginning as a kind of mini tutorial.
Thank you! That's a good idea, I would like to have the mechanics shown to the player more intuitively than they currently are. Thanks for playing!
This is really cool, I like the style and the dialogue! I found a bug where you can press space as someone is leaving and it will act like its confirming something, but that didn't ruin anything. The main thing that I would change is I wish there was a way to see why an item gave you the amount of money it did, because if you are tricked into believing an item is valuable then you are just left confused as to why it doesn't turn a profit. Despite that criticism I still liked the game overall!
Thank you for playing, and I appreciate you letting me know about that bug! My intention had been for the reasons for an item being a scam to be revealed through multiple playthroughs or interactions with the character, but I don't believe I got that point across as well as I would have liked to haha, thank you for the feedback!
