How does the game fit the theme?
On the one hand you simply cannot trust anyone and need to think very well before you give out a loan (based on the hints and just general feel and what the NPCs say)
On the other hand there is the twist where you have to trust No One the genie in order to rescue your beloved cat.

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
The art and music are both from the unity assets store, other than that, all the programming and building the map itself using the asset was done by us.

How many people worked on the game?

I had a good time with this one. I liked that the applicants come in a different order each run, and the whole setup of using the genie’s hints to figure out who can be trusted fits the theme nicely.

The “No One” twist completely got me on my first attempt. I did exactly what the theme told me to do, refused to trust the genie, and promptly lost. Only afterwards did I realize what his name was actually telling me. :-D

The presentation is also really cohesive. The assets, UI, music and sound effects all fit together well, and the voice acting is wonderfully silly in exactly the right way.

I played through it twice and had fun both times. Nice little and well polished jam game with a clever use of the theme.

Thank you so much for the kind and detailed review, and for playing our game :D

I'm glad that you enjoyed many aspects of the game, and that we managed to cause you some trust issues, fitting for the theme haha.

Really liked the visuals on this one - reminded me of SNES retro graphics like Link to the Past. The game loop was fun too; it wasn't too difficult to deduce who were the suspects, but the difficulty did progress as the days went on. The story was cute too, and the sfx of the different characters was funny. If I had to critique, the HUD’s minimal aesthetic felt out of place against the retro visuals. Also maybe some higher res art for the profile pics would've been nice; for instance, the genie stood out with his high res art compared to the other characters. But other than that, great job on your first published game and first game jam! Hope to see more of your work in the future :)

Edit: the term for the mismatch pixel art is mixels (learned that from another comment!)

Thank you very much for the detailed and warm review. I'm glad you enjoyed the aesthetics, story and sounds. And you definitely hit the nail on the head on every constructive criticism you have: The HUD was supposed to be completely different and fit the rest of the theme but sadly we didn't manage to polish it in time so we had to stick with the prototype, and we really wanted to have a higher resolution art for the chat pictures but again a combination of the time constraints and just both of us not being very artistic haha. We will definitely use this jam as a learning experience for future jams and games in general.

Thank you very much for playing our game :D

This game is a wonderful mix of having a stroke and smoking way too much devil's lettuce. I can't really put into words what I felt, day after day playing this.

Huge thumbs up for the amazing voice acting!

Now this is a puzzle game I can handle the first time round, lol. I get it's pretty simple, but I liked it. Your use of sounds and music in the opening cutscene were actually well done enough to hook me in. I also appreciated the counter of days left, it's the little things that tell me I'm not going to be stuck too long doing a papers please or something. Nice job. It's a fun little game jam game.
