How does your game meet GBJam's theme
Based around accruing wealth from an old gold mine.
It's a bit of a skin, but it's there

Love the art style!
I think a full game of this would be interesting!
Nice start, the sprites are nice and it has that proper Game Boy feel. I could see it being something like Pilot Quest from UFO 50 where you delve deeper into the mine and fight monsters or something while you expand your gold operation.
Thanks for the kind words. Whilst I can’t take credit for the art (short of the title card) I got into pixel art specifically through doing little demake style screenshots of games if they were for the gameboy, so trying to make it feel authentic and GB feeling was important to me, so glad that it lands there.
Thanks again for playing.
I liked the grid-aligned movement, that there were multiple ways of getting gold, and that you could then do something with the gold obtained seemingly, I hoarded mine like a little dragon, but I at least talked with each NPC. Fun little room, and I liked the music too.
Thanks I really like the grid bound movement as it makes moving around real simple and less weird edge cases to handle with collision :D. Yeah the mine with the gems is super OP from a balance perspective, but oh well, I’ll have to adjust it in future.
Thanks for playing and for the comment.
Cool game! A little simple for now but has a lot of potencial!!!
The pixel art and music/sfx are really good. Don't be so hard on your ost >:(, I liked it!
Really nice game. Congrats!!!
Thanks for playing and for the kind words.
Awesome game! The art reminds me of my old Pokemon days, I really enjoy it! I love automation games as well!!
Thanks very much. Yeah Ive been slowly getting into idle/incremental games a bit more lately, and so I’m keen to try and see how that kind of format could apply to older systems like GB
I really liked how faithful the visuals and movement feel to an actual Game Boy game. The slightly Pokémon-like art style worked really well for me too.
The incremental mining loop is simple, but it fits the game nicely and makes upgrading your tools and digging faster satisfying.
Thanks, there’s a non-zero chance I’ll try and make it in GBStudio or with GBDK at some point (even i it goes unfinished like so many other side projects :D), so yeah was keen to keep to an authentic look and feel as much as possible.
Thanks for playing and commenting.
That was pretty cool. It was kind of neat how I talked to the people and eventually one of them gave me the tool I needed. Eventually I became a millionaire, and then decided to try speed running it so I maxed everything out in about 3 minutes. Very cool, I'd love to see what those extra features would be.
I never actually timed myself doing it all, but 3 minutes sounds like a decent time, well done :D
Yeah I wanted the player to start by just interacting with things to see what happens. I think in future I would perhaps add some flavor text on things like the rock to hint at talking to people if you interact before getting the pick. But something-something, hindsight, 20-20, etc.
Anyway, thanks for playing and commenting.
I like the art. I can’t figure out how to play though. Could one of you please tell me?
Controls are listed on the itch page description, but not in game, sorry about that. To start it’s intended that you go around and interact with things, one of the NPCs will then give you a pick that starts you off. Hit rock, get money, but improvements, number go up 😄
I really like the game boy feel and look of it.
Fun little idea but pretty easy to "win".
Fastest way was just to not mine gold and go straight
for the diamonds. 10 seconds down there and I could
buy both NPC's. Anyway, good job with a nice polish :)
Super valid feedback there, the diamond/gem nodes were a very late addition as I was trying to just put some other mechanism into the game, as such it didn’t get nearly balanced right. I think in a longer game they would make sense as a later stage progression, maybe you have to buy access to the inner mine area where you can then automate these more valuable resources.
