FELLOW CAT GAME!!! Pirates, space and mutiny, what's not to love?

Submitted(+1)

Liked: The art and animation are amazing. Pirate cats in SPACE! Are you kidding me! I liked you were able to make something other then just puzzle games and narrative games it's awesome to see what people can come up with.

Could Improve: Lots! But I'm sure you guys already know that.

Additional comments: I'm sure you guys had alot of things planned that you weren't able to implement in time and if there is a post jam update I'll be sure to check it out and comment then as well! Goodluck!

The art is beautiful!!! This is definitely the highlight of the game! Though there are some parts of the game that needs a little bit of polish. I think I accidently softlocked the game as well because when one of the enemy died via the bird swooping in the nuts, I think the game just never goes on? Other than that, the attacks are really cool but I think needs a bit of visual feedback to make it much more impactful! The audio and music are also highly fitting! Overall, this game was really beautiful and had a fun turn-based mechanic but needs a bit more polish (though this is completely understandable for a game jam game!). Awesome work!!

the art in this game is absolutely stunning!! i think i had a little trouble understanding exactly how to play the game, esp. which items to pick in the beginning, what the attack order was, and if i had any status effects on. a few super tiny things: i think i saw two tooltips upon hovering over the attack names (one w formatting and one without?). additionally, when clicking on the characters in the beginning, i think there was some lorem ipsum text left. that being said, you ever decide to expand on this post jam, would LOVE!!! to play.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for the feedback! We definitely have some post-jam updated ready and in the works for clarifying someone things. Items will get tooltips and placeholder text will be filled out. There will also be some more content added after the fight. If you have more feedback for us when you come back, we'll be happy to hear it after the jam as well! 💜

Hey, really cool game, the art is absolutely stunning. The cats have such distinct designs. The game is a bit hard to understand though and I wish there were more visual ques for the combat. To name some: damage numbers and visible status effects on the characters. Overall very charming game though.

Developer

Thank you! A lot of effort went into the art and we are so glad it pays off. And thank you for the suggestions, we were just discussing the same issue and where we might put status indicators. I don't think we talked about damage numbers yet, that's definitely something to consider!

Stucked at the end of the first combat, i'm not sure if there's more content? Art is great and cohesive, congrats on making the game on such a short timeframe!

Developer

Thank you very much! And no, there is not more content in the jam version. You beat the jam game! We do intend to add more content after the jam, we just were not able to cram it all in before the deadline 😅

The art is brilliant, I love the pirate vibe!! :) I found the interface and gameplay a bit trickier – it took me a while to work out how to use the attacks. Before that, I couldn’t manage to equip the team members. And once the enemy team was defeated, I couldn’t seem to end the combat phase…?
Anyway, the game looks very promising! Bravo!

Developer

Thank you so much! Space Pirate Cats turned out to be quite the aesthetic!

Sadly, we did not manage to implement content after the battle phase. There will be more coming after the jam, though!

The interface may get some tweaks after the jam as well. We've already got some tooltips and descriptions in the works so players can better see what different items and abilities do for them. The attacks themselves probably do need a proper introduction. Our team will discuss some options, thank you for the feedback.

the artwork is absolutely stunning, really nice track as well, i do wish the gameplay was a bit more clear though!

Developer

Thank you for the kind words! We agree that clarity was an issue, we have some post-jam updates loaded up to provide more information to the player.

First of all, the game looks really good! I think it's still pretty rough on the game feel side, but that shouldn't be hard to fix later in development if you keep working on it. Either way, I'll definitely be following this one closely!

The artstyle and art direction in general is WONDERFUL. Everything looks super polished and I really love the general aesthetic of the game, I can tell you all put a lot of effort into it <3

I'll be honest it took me a while to understand how to properly play, but probably it's also because I ended up having some bugs. But overall I really liked your idea, with some more time to polish the programming part it will surely be a 10/10, great job <3

Developer

Thank you for the kind words <3 The art team I got to lead is incredibly talented!

The visuals are stunning! kudos to the art team going with a detailed style despite the given time. Our game is kinda similar so i get the struggles (i think :))). Nonetheless, i can see this being a great game after some polishing, Amazing game and concept!

Developer

Thank you for the kind words! Our art team really tested themselves with this jam and we're all proud of their work.

The struggles are real, lol! I look forward to trying your game later tonight. We do hope to continue Mates of Mendacity, at least to the point we had hoped to get to during the jam.

The art in the game is very beautiful. I also liked the music and sounds, they are also good. The only problem is that either I'm stupid or there is some kind of bug, because after I fought the opposing team, for some reason my characters just started dying after each of my turns, and the game continued and you couldn't hit anything. But overall, I liked the game. You get Monolith approves. By the way. Hi StoneHolder28

Developer(+1)

Hi Aristarkh! I look forward to trying your game!

We did not get to put all the content in the game, so it ends abruptly. If all four on the left die, game over. If all four on the right die, you win!

Overall VERY AMBITIOUS therefore - unfinished and clunky.
I've encountered softlocks and bugs that made me wantto quit early. Also SFX for the attacks, animations and various other things like when the enemies are moving and what they are doing are missing. Art is incredible. I love the cat designs really brings back memories from playing Captain Claw over 20 years ago

Developer(+1)

Hi there! Thank you for playing, and we are sorry you caught our buggier version. We've fixed most of the major bugs and have not encountered another soft lock since our last update. If you liked the artwork and the concept, we hope you will give it another try!

Submitted(+1)

Sure! I can give it another try :d

Submitted(+1)

All the artwork is amazing the way all the sprites looks stained, aged and worn down makes the game feel very immersive

Art and music are 200% awesome!
Gameplay lacks friendliness though, it's unclear and  bit repetitive.

Developer

"Lacks friendliness" is a good and polite way to put it! Thank you for the feedback, and we are absolutely proud of our artists and our musician. We've fixed most of the major bugs and we have not encountered another soft lock since our last update. If you enjoyed the vibes, we hope you will Mates of Mendacity another try!

The visuals are crazy good in this one. I did have to click everywhere to get attacks working, aside from that it was a nice experience.

Developer

Thank you very much! There were some bug with click detection, amongst other frustrations, that have since been ironed out. If you have fun with the buggier version, you should give the game another go!

Submitted

The art and music for this game are really good, the only problem is that I couldn't really do anything. Attacking and swapping simply didn't work.

Submitted

Same problem

Developer

Hi, thank you for playing Mates of Mendacity! We have patched a number of bugs related to interactions and soft locks. If you would like to give it another try, you should now be able to play through until all four enemies are defeated!

Submitted(+1)

Now that the game is fixed it's much better. One of the problems though is that it's a little bit boring, and very confusing. The art however is the best I've seen this jam.

Developer(+1)

We appreciate the constructive feedback! We will explore some options to make it more fun such as  improved visual effects, clearer descriptions, perhaps a gradual introduction of some items, balancing difficulty, and improved synergies in certain party builds.
