How does the game fit the theme?
The narrator / character has a split personality: when they're No-One, they express themselves using negations and you can trust them (because: "Trust No-One !").
When they're Some-One, they may make lists of things or say "Someone said..." and you can't trust them.

You have to follow their directions correctly to find your path !

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
I took assets from Itch, they're all listed in the Credits section on the end screen :)

How many people worked on the game?

Cute game with nice visuals!

Though, there's a visual bug where the character faces the wrong way while gliding on the left side of a  wall. The text is also quite fast, it would be nice if we could read at our own pace .

Pretty nice narrative and implementation of the theme. Looking forward to the post-jam build

Very cool game and twist on the platformer formula!

I didn’t make it to the end unfortunately. I got stuck on a segment that just was a bit too hard for me, or I got lost with too few instructions on where to go next. Or both of them =)

The help text were way way too fast for me to read so I only managed to get half of, if even that, on most of them. I would recommend being able to re-trigger all texts prompts in the game and having them slower. For us players there are other things happening too and we are not always ready to start reading right when the prompt appears.

Really good jam game though!

Nice cute game!!!

I love the unique controls! It's a little bit hard, but I had so much fun just going [space] [space] [space] [space] x100 XD

Sometimes it's a bit hard to get back up when I get stuck in a hole or something, but overall it was really fun!

Developer

Hey, thanks for the nice comment !

Yes the game is too hard as is, I already made an updated (and easier) version ready to be issued when the jam ends. It doesn't have new features but the game is more balanced and the camera zoom is lowered so you can see more easily where you're going. I also fixed the physics a bit. It will be online within a week if you want to give it a try.

Submitted(+1)

Liked: The platforming is solid, the story is engaging, the art work is cool. I loved the background clouds, they are so fun to look at.

Could improve: I know the main mechanic is you can't jump while on the ground but after some time it gets a bit annoying especially when platformers have ingrained the knowledge of jumping when on the ground into you. It can easily be replaced by something else and I think your story and level design takes care of the theme already.

Additional Comments: I'm sorry if I come across as harsh in the previous section but as I said the appeal of your game comes from the visual effects and the story; the platforming is just a means to reach it. It's an amazing work you've put out. Great job.

Developer(+1)

Hey, thanks for the feedback and nice comment ! Your message isn't harsh, it's honest and useful feedback - and thus appreciated ;)

I already starting preparing an update for when the jam ends. I will however keep the jump-not-on-the-ground: most players said they enjoyed it and found it made the game more interesting than if it had been a more classic jump mechanic. But I improved the different jumps' physics so they're more easy to manoeuvre (this was a problem for more players).

I also lowered the camera zoom and added some visual hints here and there so it's easier to find your way through the game.

If you want to re-try the game and make additional feedback next week you'll be welcome ! (But I'll be on another jam so I may take a bit of time to reply)

Submitted(+1)

For sure! I'd love to try again and give feedback!

Submitted(+1)

Ohh, so confusing, but in goog way, very good job, but I almost dropped it when I was teleported back to start of the level(I'm glad I didn't do that)

Developer

Hey, thank you !

Someone did leave at that point. I'll update the game after the jam, I think I'll have to make the game's path and the fact that when you're teleported back at the start it's actually progress more obvious.

If there are other things you'd advise or would like to see in the game feel free to share, I'm taking this as an opportunity to learn more by improving my game with everyone's feedback before trying another jam :)

Submitted(+1)

Fun little platformer! Loved the artstyle and the little mouth-made sound effects, definitely gave the game a more whimsical vibe out of all of the dark murder mysteries in the jam lol. I got the the hourglass area before stopping. Maybe it was intentionally designed, but the path wasn't always clear to me, and a lot of the game was spent wandering around since the controls pretty much allow you to gain infinite height. There were some points the controls felt like it was disagreeing with me a bit, I think having some sort of indicator for when you can/cannot jump in midair would be helpful in giving some player agency (I found myself mashing the jump button a lot of the time just hoping I can jump). But overall especially for as solo week long project this was super impressive! Great job :)

Developer

Hello, thanks for taking time to play my game and write this nice feedback :)

I'm making a list of things I will improve in a post-jam update. I agree with all the (valid) criticism you made - they were also raised by other players. I'm already planning to tackle these issues, I'll probably work on them next week.

If you have other advice/ideas to suggest about the game you're welcome to share them.

Like I said to others below, I added your game to my "to-rate today" list but I need a meal and a nap so it may take some time.

Submitted(+1)

The jump mechanic is interesting for sure.

I reached the hourglass area where I have to wait for moving platforms. At that point I had to stop cause the jumping is very uncomfortable to control :(. It felt like I don't have enough air time for each jump to control where the character will land, so usually I have to spam 2-3 jumps to get to where I want.

Anyways, great job on doing this solo!

Developer(+1)

Hi, thanks for your feedback !

You are a bunch of people mentioning you find the jump difficult to control, so I added that to the list of things I need to update when the jam ends. Sorry about that ><

(I'm adding your game to my list of "rate today", but I may need to take a nap so don't be upset if I take some time to do so !)

Submitted(+1)

Saw your comment on my game and came to try yours! I really liked this one flying through the air like that was really fun

Developer(+1)

Hey, tank you ! (If you got lost, there's a walkthrough video below the game on the game's page)

Submitted(+1)

Okay cool! Probably good but that's really helpful, thanks! :D

Submitted

It felt a bit like slowly walking through the air, which was pretty fun!
I honestly had no idea where I was supposed to go, but even then, it didn’t really take away from the enjoyment of the game.

Developer

Hi ! Thanks ^^ I know it's difficult to find your path so I added a silent walkthrough video on the game's page if you want. It's a temporary solution, I'll update the game after the jam to make things a bit more obvious and maybe add some more contents.

Submitted(+1)

Can't believe you made this solo in just one week!!!

The game feels so complete and polished. The mechanic where u can only jump in the air is such a fun idea, and I loved exploring different areas and discovering all the little dialogue boxes scattered around.  let's just say some of the paths caught me completely off guard. You really anticipated so many weird things players might try haha.><

The sound effects are great too — they really add to the charm! Loved it overall. Looking forward to seeing where you take it( if you decide to keep developing it!  :3

Developer(+1)

Thank you ! :D :D :D

I used assets for the visuals, music and UI so I didn't make everything (I'm so bad at art lmao)

I'm super happy you liked the mechanic. As for getting lost or dying too often, it's a balancing and level-building issue. Like you, I'll try to issue an improved version after the jam. I think I'll add a minimap or something else to help finding your path more easily. And I didn't manage to anticipate ALL the weird things players do XD Some folk did find infinite fall or paths I thought were impossible to take (resulting in not being able to finish the game).

As I'm planning to work on an improved version next week, if you want to share ideas or advice you are welcome to do so !

Submitted(+1)

I'm really looking forward to your improvements!
If I come up with any new ideas, I'll leave another comment ;3

Submitted(+1)

Cool game! I like the idea that you can only jump when you're not on the ground. It's unique! At first, it was a little hard to navigate, and I was confused about where I was supposed to go. There was also a part where I was free-falling and there was no ground at all. I know I can press the R key, but it reminded me of Loki falling for 30 minutes if you've watched Marvel hahaha.

Developer

Thank you ! I'm delighted to see all the nice comments on the gameplay idea hahah

It is hard to navigate, I think I'll re-work the jump and wal-jump physics a bit.

I know about the difficulty to find your path, this issue has been (rightly) raised by more than a half of the players. I will improve this after the jam, so if you want to share ideas / suggestions as to how I can improve this, I'm taking notes of everyone's ideas.

Another player found a long fall like you. Do you recall (approximately) where it was ? (If you don't no worries I'll try to find those anyway)

I don't know Loki sorry ><

Submitted(+1)

Really great game!

When multijump get's used in a game I usually worry that the game will become way too easy but you did a terrific job balancing this with great level design.

The music choice really fit well and got me immersed in the game, I also really liked the funny sound effects.

Everything came together really well visually as well, I loved the blend of HD and pixel art, and the shaders that made the world become increasingly chaotic felt "just right" in a way I can't describe.

I've seen this has already been mentioned but I did get lost a couple times and it took me a minute to find the path to progress.

At one point I did hit a bug where the red clouds didn't make me despawn and the r key would no longer reset the game, but resetting the game from the menu did fix it.

Overall really great game and an incredible feat for a solo dev in a week. I look forward to seeing your other creations ;)

Developer

Hi, thank you so much for your very kind feedback ! I was very happy to read your message :D

I wanted to do something that didn't trigger the "meh, another platformer, not very interesting" feeling hence the jump mechanic + narration.  I'm very happy if it worked at least a bit.

People did mention getting lost / unfair deaths, and I'm planning to work on this and publish an updated and fixed version of the game. So if other advice/ideas come to your mind feel free to suggest them. I take this as an opportunity to learn and make progress. I started jams this Summer and it helps me a lot to improve my skills. I want to do this as a job so I'm working hard to improve, so criticism meant to help me progress is always welcome.

No-one else told me about the red particles (= death-zone) not triggering. Do you remember where that was approximately ? I'd like to fix it ! (But if you don't remember don't take another 15mins to find-out, I'll do it !)

Submitted(+1)

Of course it was my pleasure, I really enjoyed it. I honestly don't have that much more feedback and for the most part felt like a really smooth game, but I'll keep that in mind going forward:) The bug I found was in the first 5-10 minutes of the game when you are moving downward before you meet no-one, It's also possible that it was just my browser running the game incorrectly.

Developer(+1)

Thanks, I'm adding the "check-particles around No-One in lvl 1" thing to my list !

Thank you for the encouragement too, it helps me to stay motivated and learn more :p And it's very pleasant to read.

Submitted(+1)

Pretty somber game but in a good way. Even though the story is simple there was something really sad about the way Some-One kept running away and leaving signs that prevented you from catching them. The use of the unreliable narrator was a good way to introduce mechanics, though I did wish there were more cases where either the signs or the narrator told the truth in order to throw you off. The idea of jumping only in the air was very unique though it was a little bit wonky, and I had to read the description to see how the Wall Jump worked. Also, the sounds were hilarious and I loved the graphics even though they're all taken from other sources because they all fit together rather well.

Developer

Hi ! It's nice you got this aspect of the plot - it was meant as a reference to dissociative disorders caused by trauma - the person developed different layers of personality to protect themselves. One of those is asking for help, but the other is afraid of everyone and has a need to escape and defend themselves. Hence they're having an internal fight and give you contradictory info.

I didn't take time to polish this aspect of the plot but I may do so when I update the game after the jam. I'm not sure it was super-clear for everyone ><

I'm very pleased that the home-made sounds made you laugh, that was the intention and I had fun making them ! For the graphics and music I indeed used assets and I'm glad if they work well together ; I want to learn art but I figured I'd focus on programming and getting to know the engine well during my first months (or year) of learning.

Other players also said they didn't really understand when they are supposed to follow directions or not, so I will add a tutorial about this at the beginning in the post-jam version and think about more truths and lies too for a more balanced experience. As for the jump and wall-jump, other people also made this criticism so I think I'll have to re-work the physics a bit too. I am making a list of fixes and updates to make next week, so if you want to share more advice / things you'd like to see changed or added in the game feel free to send me a list ! It helps me a lot in my learning process (I'm learning alone and aiming at becoming a professional).

Submitted(+1)

Lovely game! I really enjoyed the unreliable narrator concept of games here, wished there were more trusting of no one. The jump mechanic felt sooo wonky personally, because it velocity while in the air is like multiplied to the jump, it's hard to maneuver, or maybe that's just the intention there. I did get stuck in a part I can't restart, so that's that lols. This was a good experience, nice one!

Developer

Thank you !

Do you remember where you got stuck exactly ? I'm taking notes to published a fixed and updated version when the jam ends !

As for the jump I thought it was fun this way but is it too much ? (For the wall-jump in level2 it clearly is but I didn't have time to fix it better, the basic jump I like but if it's not super easy to manoeuvre for people I may fix it a bit too)

Submitted

Hi! Let's start with the fact that the dialogues sounds are amazing 😅 The character and the art in general is really good. I initially had problems with the menu, since im playing from browser the ESC button just made me escape the full screen and it didn't close the settings, had to restart a couple of time. I didn't initially understand to make the contrary to the text, since it's not quite told in the game. How it could have done without telling it directly was probably making 2 ways visible in the camera and something like 'Go on the top platform to the checkpoint' and the checkpoint was in fact at the bottom. And while I'm starting to write this the game appeared with a little dialogue because I was AFK, amazing ahah. Other than that the map doesn't take count of the players ignorance of the layout so I could just fly away forever, I once went UP as said by the text and then went down close to the walls and made it anyways; so make sure to block it out if it's not intentional. The music was quite charming and cozy, I like it a lot [And now another dialogue for being afk lol, Im sorry narrator]. I'll repeat it, the self made sound effects are so funny. Another little thing, in a section where the narrator tells me to not press R or trust him, it was quite hard reading and paying attention to actually land on the platform so might make the player intentionally fall forever until you finish the dialogue or reducing it might be effective. And... I think I found a bug  where falling and seeing the red guy just made me go back to the first checkpoint loosing the progress. Overall it's quite a nice Idea, I love Stanley Parable type of games and want always to make the narrator angry. I'd really love to replay it once its been figured out better! Well done!

Developer

Hi !

Thanks for the compliments :D

For the menu, I wrote under the game on the page that you have to use backspace (the <--- key on your keyboard) to go back ;)

For the unclear directions it's my bad, I thought people would deduce it easily but it's a game-design mistake on my part. Other testers made suggestions as how to make it more understandable, so I think I'll add those when the jam ends.

For the fact you're flying away, yes: I added death-zones in the places I thought this could happen, but I must have missed a bunch of those T_T

The text in the environment gives you fake advice (the place that says up and you go down is meant that way, you landed where you were supposed to go, near the haiku I believe).

For the long-fall dialogue, I intended it that way. The narrator is trolling you, it's meant to be a tricky jump where you may make a mistake like restarting or fall aside. The theme is "trust no-one" after all ^^ Do you think it's a mistake ?

The going back to the first checkpoint is intended as well. you then have to walk in the same direction as you did at the beginning, and this time the mushroom jumps you up. After climbing up a bit with mushrooms and jumps you discover a new type of platforms and will find a new game level with a different atmosphere and more content that there was in the part you played. (And you will unlock a new ability in this level too).

Submitted(+1)

I think it's alright for the theme, though at some point having to restart a lot makes the player a lil frustrated in that mean. Like it should have some control over what he does in some way, like the first time you encounter the dialogue, you die and that's alright, the second time maybe you don't repeat the dialogue or get it shorter I think. About going to the left at the 'go back' sign, I didn't even think I should have gone there so I circled back in the map without being able to continue unfortunately.  Good luck with the development!

Developer(+1)

I understand your frustration. I will add a minimap and/or more obvious info about where to go !

Submitted

I’m French, so I found it a bit tricky to get started, but luckily I had an English keyboard! It’s actually really cool that you can change the key assignments in the settings! Thank youuu

Developer

:o but normally you can play with a French keyboard ! (I am French, I play the web build with my French keyboard with Q/D without a problem. If you have time to spare can you try and tell me if it's not working please ?)

And of course: thanks to you !

Submitted(+1)

This is a fun little platformer. I liked how you could only jump in the air, that's a fun twist. I do wish the levels were slightly more linear. Good job!

Developer

Thank you ! Difficulty to find your path is the main issue that's raised about the game so I will look into it to publish a better updated version when the jam ends ;) If you have any advice you want to share, I'll add it to my list !

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

Cool idea and a lot was well executed.

The visuals are great, the movement felt good to me, and the SFX was hilarious.

I think the main problem I had was simply taking a wrong turn that I couldn't have known was wrong and ending up in a dead end it wasn't possible to get out of without resetting and going back a long way, which felt a little frustrating and happened a bit too much. It didn't feel like that was the intended difficulty, compared to having to decide what was lying to you, which felt fairer/more satisfying when you got it wrong or right.

Regardless, I think it's a neat idea and look forward to seeing your plans for it.

Developer

Hi, thank you for your feedback ! I'm so happy every time someone tells me the SFX made them laugh. I had a lot of fun doing it (I never tried before) :D

I got a lot of people telling me they got lost so I clearly do have to work on this aspect of the game. And you're right, that wasn't the plan - I wanted people to understand when hints are lies and when they're true. As I've asked others, do you have an idea of what would make things more clear to you ? I'm planning to add an updated version based on people's feedback when the jam ends.

I think the best suggestion I had about this problem was to add a thought-bubble to the player the first times when there are lies, to help players understand how to sort things out and navigate the game. However there shouldn't be places where you die in an unfair way or get lost for a long time. If you remember where those were, I can also try to fix them specifically (but I understand you may not have the time for this, there are a lot of other games to play and rate !)

Submitted (1 edit) (+1)

I'll try and drop back round once I get through the list of games I wanted to rate and give it another go so I can give a clearer idea. From what I remember there were sections where I wasn't really given a direction (lie or otherwise) and just had to trial and error it out, but then that branched into more and more trial and errors. I suspect I lost the "intended path" at some point and was ending up skipping certain parts and ending up on a route I had missed the directions for.

EDIT (in case you miss the discord message): I watched your youtube video and it reveals the problem I encountered - I had no idea mushrooms were supposed to bounce you, I somehow skipped unlocking that and got quite a bit further into the game... there is a section where you have lots of tall vertical areas you are supposed to bounce in and out of but I only had wall jump to navigate at this point.

Developer

Hey ! Just read your message and edit. I think that's because you went to the alternate "hardcore" section of level 1, which I did not register on this video. I can do so if you want. To confirm : after the first dialogues, did you go underneath the starting platform/island instead of going right ?

If so, you didn't go to a non-planned part nor got lost. You went to the hidden path for hardcore players. No-one mentioned it so I thought people just didn't find it and it wasn't important.

Submitted

I don't remember precisely the steps I took before that point, to be honest once I realised the jumping mechanic I spent quite a bit of time just flying around exploring so it's absolutely possible! I remember moving onto the sand timer section, and the slightly different coloured underground section? Not entirely sure which order I did those in... but I think I unlocked the wall jump in or just past the bit I felt was underground.

Developer

Hmmm ok so no that's not it. I have no idea where you got lost ><
I don't know eithher how you could get to this level without unlocking the mushrooms. I'll have to try to do what you did to find out, my guess is you jumped on the upper platforms somehow to go directly to level 2 (the pink level) without really playing much into level 1. If you couldn't use the mushrooms jump after then you couldn't finish level 2, that makes sense. I thought I'd made things so you couldn't go to that upper area in level 1 without unlocking the mushrooms but I probably didn't think about everything people could do if they didn't follow the path I'd set.

Submitted(+1)

Really cute and fun game. The narrator is great, and the jump mechanic feels weird at first but ends up being part of the charm. Visuals and audio are super cute. I got lost a couple of times and some death zones weren’t super clear, but overall great work.

Developer

Hi, thanks a lot ! I'm very happy that the jump mechanic manages to please people. And that you liked the audio (I used assets for visuals and music, but I made non-UI sfx with my voice & phone hahah)

I got this feedback a lot about deathzones and getting lost so I'm thinking of ways to improve this in a post-jam update. If you have any advice or suggestion you're welcome to share them, I'm making a list of everyone's ideas !

Submitted

that's a super cute game! I really liked being trolled by the game, is frustrating but in a good way, the level design is built very well ^^
