I don't quite understand how I'm supposed to guess the password. Each character was giving me one of two numbers, and I could only guess once. It seems a bit unfair to be honest.

I really liked the visuals of the maniac and how he talks to you.

That the Game has 2 languages is also really great for those who prefer or only speak of of them.

One critique i have is that the UI of the game seems to scale weirdly on bigger or smaller window resolutions, some elements overlapped on smaller resolutions.

The number they pick seems to be mostly random it would be cool if they would react to you having the “same” number, like arguing with you or changing the number to another

But overall well done

First - congratulations on your first ever jam submission! This happens once in a lifetime, so it’s should be for sure celebrated!

As for the game, besides the main villain and sound effects, which are both nice, I honestly have a mixed feelings for it, so here is my critique, hope it will help you to grow:

  • I never figured out how to play the game. Probably I’m not smart enough, but those guys I’m supposed to call tell me different digits and I never figured it out how to know if they are saying truth or not. So, probably some tutorial round describing the gameplay loop would help there.
  • Game’s page looks poor, same is applicable to the game’s thumbnail. Check how alike games doing both and work on yours, good thumbnail and page on itch is a must as they are the bricks on the road to your game for the player.
  • You have a tiny UI and default font. Next jam take some time and pick some cool Google font, it’s free, it’s a fast thing to do and it immediately adds to the vibe.

Is I never passed the day one, cannot provide any feedback regarding gameplay besides the above, but anyway, congratulations once again and cheer up, you did it!

One more thing - check this guy out, especially his stream where he is playing games of newbies and critiques them. It’s probably the best possible game design crash course, available in Russian https://www.youtube.com/@xkoster

I think the game fits the jam theme well! I really like some of the visuals! The UI could use a bit of polish. I'd love to see some way yo track which player number is which. memorizing it was tough for me LOL! Other than that great work!

I am so confused right now on how to find numbers , my mind is messed after 2 rounds, overall a tutorial would be the best way to make this even more amazing

After 2 rounds, I just couldn't handle the tension! Like I knew what to do but every time I looked at the time it was like my mind was wiped out lol. Great game and one of the best takes on the theme so far. Well done!

Definitely, the game is really impressive considering how little time you had. It fits the jam theme really well, has great graphics, and I absolutely loved the idea. Excellent work!

Nice, classic puzzle. It was a little confusing to tell like who was lying and where your number came in the order etc. I think some UI polish to make things more clear would go a long way.

Love the character design! Was a bit confused about how to win the last the round

Really liked it, i liked the art style and atmosphere. good work

Nice interpretation of the theme ! The atmosphere is present although some polishing of the UI and some optimization would improve the overall feeling. Great game!

I almost peed myself btw

I am too scared of horror games but I played as long as I could! The experience was nice and the atmosphere was freaky! Good work and wish you the best in the jam!

Nice game! Just needs to be a bit more obvious that someone is calling you

I like how it nailed that "Saw" feel. It was... hard to tell exactly WHO was lying to you when you got the same numbers from different people, or to know where my number came into play in the order. Maybe a few tells or the ability to ask other people to tell you who they think is lying? Still, good job getting this in, congrats on your first jam!

Developer

Thank you so much for your feedback and advice! From the very beginning, I wanted to add a mechanic where you could trick others and label someone as a traitor. Or ask for their opinion. I also wanted to add different tasks for the rounds, instead of just password matching all the time. But I couldn't do it because I lack the skills, and a week wasn't enough to perfect even the concept that exists now.

Wow the killer have great model and animation!

I figured out that you need to understand if the NPCs are lying, but I haven't felt like I have the tools to know that. I saw that you talked about how it was implemented in the comments and asked for some ideas.

Fitst, I don't think you specified the order of the password. I gueesed that the order is me, and than according to the order in the UI, and it seem to work when everybody told the truth - but it's better to specify it, or just allow to input the numbers in any order

You did specify the numbers are unique, but I someow missed that. This can be emphasized by bold/red/repeat etc

Next, thematically, it wasn't clear who will die if we guesed wrong/right, and who guessed wrong/right. Think about a case where I have 1 other person - it's a classical prisoner delimma - if we both lie, we both die, but it's not clear what happens if we both tell the truth.

One way this can work is if each character have specific rules - always lies, always tell the truth etc - and if after each night, the killer tells you who got it right and who got it wrong, and kills a random person who got it wrong. This way you have some information to work with.

Anyways, great work!

Thank you so much for the honest feedback and advice. Maybe after the jam is over, I'll post a separate file with a better version taking your tips into account.

trading password digits with strangers on the phone is a clever distillation of the theme and the round timer keeps it tense. ui overlaps itself a fair bit, the call menu sits on top of the ok button. rough looks, neat core
