Great art style, and I really enjoyed the boss duel like a real wild west outlaw :) I did notice a slight menu bug I wanted to mention. When switching to Fullscreen in the Options menu, it tells you to press ESC to exit. But pressing ESC just drops the game back into windowed mode, and you have to press it a second time to actually return to the main menu. Just a small heads-up on the UI, but otherwise, awesome job on the game!

How does the game fit the theme?
It fits the theme for in the wild west an outlaw can't trust no one but himself.
What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
Everything for Deadman's Hand was made in house by hand.

Good game. As other comments said, you should buff the damage and maybe add more aoe(i've only tried 2 guns). The enemies are overlapping weirdly. You could fix this by adding y depth sorting + making the health bars a higher ui z index. The main menu buttons blended a bit too much into the background and you should make the first play animation a lot faster(you should make it zoom out for a couple frames then zoom right back in). Good game though!
A bit too difficult for me, it could have been made more gradually difficult spawning more enemies(?) with each round of poker played, giving the player the opportunity to stack up a bit. Currently I needed to get really lucky with the first hand and hope for the best. I also didn't really get how it fit into the theme.
Other then that it's a novel idea :)
Cool twist that this starts with poker stuff and then turns into a survivor-like Wild West fight. The card swap idea is neat too, especially how higher card values boost damage and the face cards give effects like Ice Jack and Acid King. It took me a minute to fully get it, but the atmosphere and music are super good, nice job :)
Thank you! All the music was made in-house by Crusty Trayson.

Once the card mechanics clicked, I had a lot of fun with this! After a few tries, I made it to the desert boss, but arrived with only 1 HP left and got shot immediately. Really enjoyed the run! How many stages are there?
Loved the concept! I'd really like to see a fleshed-out and polished version of this. I may have missed it but im not quite sure how this fits into the theme
What an awesome plot twist! Pivoting from a poker setup into a full survivor-like shooter is such a cool and unique concept. The atmosphere, music, and art design are stellar. My main feedback would be working on weapon balance/enemy scaling (enemies clump up a bit easily), adding hit feedback so you know when you've taken damage, and making the shop economy/in-game tutorials clearer for new players. The core idea has massive potential for a full Steam release! I hope you also get a chance to play my game and leave a review: /jam/brackeys-16/rate/4953523
We had a dialogue to further explain the in-game mechanics, but we ran out of time to implement them. As a man who playtested it on the prerelease version, the guns were wayyy weaker lol, but we have been messing around with it since we posted it; there is hit feedback in a sound effect, but the music was just a tad bit too loud. We also do plan on expanding the game and releasing it on Steam later on in its development. As for your game, I added it to the list to play and rate it on my next submissions stream, which is happening late Friday night.

Thanks for explaining the context! Scope creep during jams is always tough, but the core loop is definitely solid. Tuning down the music volume to hear those hit SFX better makes total sense, and taking it to Steam later sounds like a great move.
Also, thanks a lot for adding Star Cube to your stream list, I really appreciate it! Great gesture, man. I'll be tuned in on Friday night for sure.
Liked the art style, very silly !
On the web version i had a problem with fullscreen. After setting the game to fullscreen, when pressing "esc" to leave the settings, the game would go back to small. Maybe try adding a button on the screen or another key. (This also applys in the shop)
Well done in rest!
There are a lot of cool things going on in this game. It could easily be expanded into many directions :) Well done team.
Nice game with cool atmosphere (:
The music fits nicely with the setting. Maybe utilizing old piano bar sounds with stride piano style music would be fitting here because this is usually what you hear in these kind of scenes
