How does the game fit the theme?
The core mechanic is all about deception.
Cards are passed face-down, and the sender can lie about what it is. If you blindly trust a Heal, you might get backstabbed.
But if you challenge them and they were telling the truth, you take the penalty!
Even the AI will bluff and betray you.
You constantly have to second-guess everything, literally forcing you to Trust No One.

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
no,but I've actually tried to make a card game before and failed, so I brought what I learned from that failure into this project:D

I really liked the overall concept, the design, and the cards. The only issue I had was with the resolution — my view was a bit limited. But the game was great! Great job!

Developer

Glad you enjoyed it!

I liked the concept, even though most of it kinda went over my head (card games tend to do that for me.) I think it was pretty solid, I was just confused a bit early on.

Developer

Thanks for feedback:D

Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it!

Fun game! I could see this being expanded in the future with a full tutorial and more enemy types!

Developer

Thanks for the reply!Figuring out how to do tutorials is one of the hardest parts of game dev!

What an excellent game! Great implementation of the theme, great mechanics, nice work on the AI too! I only wish it were a bit easier :P

Developer

Appreciate the response! I'm figuring out how to make it more intuitive at a glance :D

What a very interesting game! Honestly, if this game was made as a board game, I would 100% buy it! I do feel like the game needs a bit more visual feedback to signify the effects of the card whether it heals, attacks, or defends. At the moment, it just kinda skips over with a cross if someone got something wrong which is a bit unclear. The rules were pretty simple once I got to play a couple of rounds. I would probably play this with my friends as well if there's an online version of it! The sound effects and music were simple but implemented super well into the game and the graphics are pretty cleann! Great work!!

Glad you like my game :D

Might need some time to grasp what happen during the game. But reading from the rules below, i get some understanding altough not 100%. But i foolishly challange the enemy and get my 4 HP to 0. The tutorial can be improved with a step by step dialog box. Good game, actually. Love it!

Developer

Thanks for feedback,I'm trying to figure out the best way to present the tutorial.

I too also randomly get sent back to the lobby. It happens a turn after one of the other players are killed.
I think its a really interesting concept and fun gameplay loop. My only issue is that I HATE READING so I did enough reading of the rules to a get a gist, and then tried fully picking up the game by playing it but the game moved a bit too fast for me to fully understand what was going on. Even after I went back to re-read the rules turns moved too quickly for me. Either a longer timer or a log would be really helpful if you decided to keep developing this. But great work for a solo dev :D

Sorry I ran out of time for the win/lose animations. I should've added a 3 second delay before the menu!

I'm trying to figure out a better tutorial presentation and tweaking card animations to show targets clearly. Adding those animations will actually solve the issue of players playing cards too fast :D

Submitted(+1)

I randomly get thrown out of games. Idk what is happening.
Amazing work for one dev!

Developer

Sorry, I ran out of time to make the win and lose animations. I really should've added a 3 second delay before returning to the menu :D

Lol all good

oooh cards :3 ilovecardsOwO

i like the game btw just a bit of polishing and its a ready game for steam

start with improving the cards visual side

Developer

mao!Glad you like it!

I'm figuring out how to tweak the card visuals :3

I really liked the art and the soundtrack. But the visuals during the card playing part were a little confusing to me. I suggest better highlighting  the card that a player passed to you, but that's my opinion. Needed some time to figure out everything, but I really like the card game you made. Good job.

Developer

I'm also figuring out how to make card animations more intuitive for showing the target. Plus, just adding these animations will mostly fix the issue of cards being played way too fast :D

This is a cool game, and I love card games.  I did think it was pretty confusing in the beginning though. I think it could greatly benefit from a tutorial and more clear UI handholds.  This would be fun to try out in a multiplayer setting and I would love to see a polished version.

Developer

I'm also trying to figure out the best way to present the tutorial. Researching P2P these past two days has been giving me a massive headache :D

Cats are always a good decision hahaha. The card art is cute! Try our game too :)

Developer

Thanks for feedback, love cats:D

Really nice and polished game

Thanks for feedback:D

interesting game! would have been nice to have a bit more of a tutorial, and the music glitched out into a drone for me after a bit which got annoying. but the visuals and gameplay are cool

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback! Looks like a strange bug. The BGM is supposed to loop, but it suddenly cut out. I'm checking the cause now.

it's interesting and i won too, everything is great but my game took so long to load , add build in low res so it loads quick

Developer

Thanks for the feedback!

Submitted(+1)

its really interesting, would obviously be cooler if played with other people, but this was pretty good aswell

was hard at first, but i didnt give up until i won!!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! I'm glad you liked it :D

Okay this is a great game idea, really, and very impressive for only one dev.

The music is great, creates a pleasant atmosphere, makes me feel like I'm thinking hard 🧠. The rules are well explained with a precise choice of words.
Here are some feedbacks if you want to continue developping your game, I think it really has potential. Maybe some card effects are not so easy to understand, for instance, the "Full mend". We don't understand who it is applied on. We guess it is the target but then there is an other heal card that "Drains 1HP from the target". It might be a bit confusing, I thought at first that every heal card was a blessing for the target. I think you could go further and openly oppose cards that help the sender and cards that help the target. Also, I didn't really understand if "honest, "logical", and "chaos" have an impact on the gameplay. I also think that animations would be very usefull in your game. It would help the game to be a bit slower, when I played I thought the turns where chaining quickly, you could let the player enjoy the success of their bluff a bit longer. And animations would also make the game a bit easier to read. We sometimes have a bit of a hard time to understand who is sending you the card.
Finaly, I think everybody already told you that, but a local multiplayer would've been really fun ! You can always put the controls on the keyboard or make a menu that says "Switch seats, it's player 1's turn", as I did in my game (which slows it down a bit).
Your game was very fun ! Keep it up !

WOW! Thank you so much for the thoughtful feedback!

Implementing P2P multiplayer is such a huge topic to tackle.

Testing it alone definitely gave me developer tunnel vision, so I missed some imprecise card text.

I should refine it by using keywords like 'Dealer' and 'Target'. My favorite part is the 'Honest Nothing Happens' Attack :D

The honest, logical, and chaos behaviors you mentioned are exactly how my bot AI reacts to playing and receiving cards, all based on simple logic and probability:)

Submitted(+1)

Oooh yeah coding different ai behaviors is definitely interesting !

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

Yeah, tweaking AI behaviors is just super fun. My dream is to develop a Boss Rush game, so I've done a bit of research on bot FSMs :D
