How does the game fit the theme?
You're playing as a priest rescuing prisoners from a cursed maze, except some of them aren't people anymore. They still look like it though, so you can't trust who you're saving.

You also mark the walls with chalk to find your way back out, and the maze changes your marks when you're not looking. So you can't really trust yourself either.

The only chalk it can't touch is sacred chalk, and you have to buy that and some other helpful items at the altar.

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
NatureManufacture : PBR Graveyard (props, candles, environment)
HIVEMIND: Hallowed Depths (crypt architecture, candle assets)
Blink : Low Poly Characters (human models)
Creature_Monsters_X (monster models and animations)
AN Interactive Physical Door Pack (doors)
castle_assets_package
HorrorBundleSFX and assorted SFX/music

All assets are bought and owned from Unity asset store.

How many people worked on the game?

I really loved aesthetics of this game. I can't necessarily praise on artistry of creation, since these are all assets you used, however I will definitely compliment on creative and very atmospheric use of them. Being able to create things after all, doesn't necessarily mean being able to as well use them well. The gameplay is relatively easy and engaging and it was fun to see markings getting changed through the game (however I mostly used them to guide me back to safety so not fooling me!) Ended with S- score, and do wonder what impacts it in the end, but overall it was one of my favourite games this jam, so congratulations, it was really great!

omg this game got me hooked. Loved the art style and gameplay. With improved mechanics, level design and some polish in Ui and in the map, I might pay to play this.

Loved the atmosphere and the presentation, it is strong in this one!
At first I felt a bit intimidated by the amount of controls when I read the control section , but I actually found the gameplay to be rather easy. I lost 3 times because I was trying to experiment to see what strategy works and what doesn't.
It seems like the innocent remain the same so that made it somewhat easy to pick the right ones. I also noticed that I keep the money in every run so I just bought a bunch of fragments and used them (I think to make it more balanced it would have been better to reset the money amount each run).
I don't really know why some of the prisoners have life bars and others don't? Feels like it should be consistent for all the prisoners if that's supposed to be a mechanic.
I think the game would have really benefitted form each run having random item placement and switching around the prisoners and the serpents, but what's there Is still pretty enjoyable

The atmosphere and attention to detail are excellent, and I’d really love to see this game developed further. I’m very curious to see what happens next. There were a few moments during the game where I felt a little confused, but once I understood what was going on, I found it really interesting and enjoyable.

Thank you so much for the feedback. We are still working on the development of this game and hopefully we can release it very soon.

I enjoyed it a lot. Loved the atmosphere.

Some feedback:

The visuals can make it very hard to see sometimes. I would've probably toned that down a bit.

The sacred chalk was not at all helpful for my run. Its color doesn't make it stand out like the white chalk. I was using the chalk to mark which gate to go through instead of direction, so its direction being changed didn't matter in my run.
I couldn't find a use for holy water. I was using spirit fragments to only free humans, so didn't have a use for holy water.
Your game poster is not doing justice to the game (black background with red text and cross). Use an in-game screenshot or something to better sell the atmosphere of the game and the text on top as your poster or something.

Thank you so much for the feedback! We really appreciate it.

We are already addressing some of these issues and we keep working on this game to make it better :)

The visual filter was a little bit hard to look at, but everything looked fitting and the map was built beautifully. We really enjoyed playing your game. Good job!

Really nice visuals.

I would recommed the flame of the torch to be dragged while you move, to give the player the feel of the speed.

Enjoyed it!

Deliver Us from Serpents is an excellent submission and one of the strongest uses of the jam theme I have played. The idea that the people you rescue may not be human is already unsettling, but making the maze alter your chalk markings means you cannot even fully trust your own route. That is such a clever and memorable interpretation of "Trust No One."

The atmosphere is fantastic. The pixelated visual style, lighting, props, environmental variation, and filter all blend together really well. I also loved the handwritten opening narration with its sound and animation; it is a simple presentation choice that sets the tone perfectly. The altar, prayer, chalk, holy water, and fragment systems give the exploration a great ritualistic feeling.

The only small suggestion I have is to show a brief in-game reminder while the chalk is equipped. I initially had to return to the controls screen to understand how to change the chalk symbol and direction. A compact tip in the lower-left corner would make that mechanic easier to learn without taking away from the mystery.

Overall, this is a very well-made, intuitive, and genuinely intriguing horror maze game. Congratulations on a fantastic jam submission!

Wow! thank you so much for the amazing feedback and the video. Some of the things are already being addressed as we keep working on the game. but just watching you playing has given us so much information on what we should fix or change.

Thank you so much this is amazing!

I really enjoyed this game! I love the artstyle and the atmosphere! I couldn't figure out how to use the chalk, but I did manage to find my way back eventually and still thought the game was very fun.

This seems really really cool! In browser its extremely difficult to play since the game should be in full screen so you can see what you are holding, but the game needs you to use escape frequently which zooms you back out of fullscreen. Changing Esc to something else I think would be a huge boon to the games playability on browser. But still cool idea and great visuals!

Thank you for the feedback !

We just fixed it, now you can use Tab instead of Esc and the game runs on full screen :)

Really great vibe here. Almost reminds me of MYST or something like that. Nicely done!

Wow! Look at that art style!

I wish I had a base amount of money to start with but searching through the maze to find coins and materials before checking anyone was a great first phase without giving the phases a hard cutoff. I love the early 2000s style!

This game really pulled me into the ps1 era. very nostalgic, I had alot of fun playing it. The game feel and story is good. Amazing cutscene aswell. My only advice would be to polish it more and make things more understandable.. may be a minimap etc. Overall great work guys. <3
