How does your game fit the theme?
The entire building is on a countdown (synced with the music), once the count reaches 0 you die!

Pretty neat little platformer, I like the little details like the small intro animation that plays when starting a level & the diegetic level select screen. If I had to guess, I think you've also taken some moveset inspiration from The End Is Nigh? Ledgegrabbing is a movement option that's honestly a little underexplored in platformers, so I'm happy to see it here.
I think most people have already pointed this out, but the ledge snapping can a little too generous. I found myself often clinging to ledges when I was just trying to descend a bit, and controlling my jump height off a ledge felt a little bit too uncomfortable to try performing consistently (Though I did find the "hold down" mechanic halfway through writing this review, which is a good addition). I think maybe some tweaks to the overall movement & feel of the character could make this game really satisfying to master.
Also, for an "unfinished" level, I found the concept for the last level to be the most engaging one. I think the weird back-and-forth pattern was what kicked my brain into gear (pun) and started making me memorize the "boss patterns", per se - it becomes a fun game of trying to compartmentalize the entire sequence, trying to remember roughly where the clock hand would be at certain parts of the track (E.G. the hand will go to the top right at the bridge, it'll stay at the top when X instrument comes in, etc.) as opposed to simply memorizing a sequence of attacks & actions ala Super Meat Boy (You know that one boss I'm referring to).
I think the idea here is unique enough that it's worth fleshing out into a full title. I can already picture ideas like having a waltz move the clock hand in Forward-Back-Back triplets, or polyrhythms with the hour/minute hand that force you to keep track of 2 beats at the same time. Consider expanding this concept a bit more.
Also for the record I played this one because you submitted it on day 1 of the jam as "ITS-A GAME JAM-A TIME YAHOO" with a tiny super mario jpeg as the image and I'm glad you kept him in the description.
WOA Thanks for the in depth reply holy!!
I somehow actually never have played The End is Nigh before! (it's been on my backlog for years now) The idea of ledge-grabbing came from Silksong's implementation of it (since i've played through it recently) and i really wanted to try my hand at making something similar to it ^v^
The ledge-snapping hitbox is definitely something that i should have tweaked more thoroughly, i think i ended up making the hitboxes too big (since i feared that it would be too difficult to reach the ledges otherwise) but it ended up being TOO generous and making you grab ledges even when you don't want to x)
This is the first actual "platformer" i've made so i'm learning a lot from all the feedback i've been receiving here ^^
The last level ("pien") is the only level in which i've really explored making the clock go counter-clockwise (Column introduces this as well but it's not really gameplay-changing in this one), the funny thing is that the clock's movement is completely random there " (due to time constraints, i finished tweaking stuff until the very last hour of the jam) but i feel like the real fun of the game (like you said) would/will be memorising the pre-made patterns of the clock/music instead of just reacting to the clock moving randomly (like what i did for the "Pien")
There's a ton of fun ideas that could be explored here i do agree (i did want to do some polyrythm stuff initially but ran out of time, i've got like zero experience in polyrythmic music-making), i also wanted to add some other obstacles like exhaust vents that send burning smoke every x beats, a bell tolling through the entire level every dozen of seconds or so, cogs that send you flying around...etc
I do really like how the concept turned out and i do feel like i could flesh it out into a more complete game eventually, we'll just have to see if i end up finishing it one day x)
Thanks for playing! I'm super happy that so many people are trying my little game out, it makes my heart flutter from the happiness xD
Very nice game environment and had a hard time getting past first level but that was fun
Very cute character but damn this game’s hard. I think the movement could be really fun with some tweaking but I found myself grabbing onto ledges more often when I didn’t want to than when I did. Also two hearts is cruel :(
I've been getting a lot of people telling me the ledges feel clunky and it's definitely true x), the hitboxes are way bigger than they should be, looking back at them.
The songs are really short so i had to limit the health the player has ! Else most people could have just tanked through the damage and ignored the clock.
Two hearts isn't enough though i do agree, three hearts seems like the sweet spot to make the game less unforgiving while still retaining the feeling of stress when the ticking clock gets closer and closer🤔
Nice game, first level was challenging but satisfying to beat!
Cool game using the clock itself as the enemy , and cute character , GG
the platforming, especially the ledge grab mechanic was a bit jank at times, but it's a cute game with promise. Good job!
so cuteee! I had fun playing it! mm maybe the movements feel a little weird, mostly the wall jumps, but maybe that's just me
I had to check this out since our game names matched lol. i like the art and the concept but unfortunately i was not able to beat the first level
Gorgeous game. It's... hard. Also, took me a lot longer than I would care to admit to figure out that you have to go to the right and jump up to start the game. I kept trying to turn the cog in that area and kept pressing every button wondering what I missed. Now I get why some games use yellow paint to guide the player, lol. Maybe add that shadow mouse figure there? Still, loved the look and feel of this.
I kind of understand why do so many games use yellow paint and arrows to guide to player now yeah x) Clear and simple to understand directions on where to go seem to be really important seeing how many people are struggling 🤔
(even without adding arrows/paint, i should have made the light coming from the level transition brighter (to indicate it wasn't just blocked off) (it's barely noticeable looking back at it))
And i should just have hidden the level selection cog when first starting to game, seeing how people kept struggling to find out how to interact with the one that's already activated in the level select x)
Great feedback! Thanks a lot!
Wow, your cute mecanic mouse was so fun to play. Integrate a clock hand was an genious idea. While playing it the time got me in double trouble - don't get hit, finish during the countdown. That's a good combo!
I didn't know I should long jump to start the level.. maybe an arrow would help?
I like the idea of the whole structure is moving in sync to kill me, and it's wonderfully excuted! and the mouse is very cute
There are several things that are really impressive here - I really liked the shadow the demonstrates the jump, and the zoom out to reveal the building was really cool
I had some trouble with the controls, and had a hard time executing the wall jumps. Also the fact that when you lose you need to repeat the entire start was a little disheartning
I think with more gradual difficulty this one could be really cool! I really liked the artwork and music, and the lighting gave everyhing nice mood
Argh it's another one of those situations where i end up tell myself "why didn't i think of that???"
Of course having to repeat the intro feels bad -_- (especially with the length of the intro cutscene and the short platforming section beforehand)
As for the difficulty ! I definitely agree that the game could have used a more lenient first level, i always seem to underestimate how difficult the levels/challenges i create are for most people (since i spend a lot of time playing difficult platformers/games)
I feel like i could have explained the wall/latch jumps better since it's as simple as just holding the Jump button during the ledge-grabbing animation, which in turn will automatically make you do said Wall/Higher Jump -x-
The lack of visual/audio feedback and a clear and simple explanation is probably why most people struggle with it, it's not that complicated i swear 😭🙏
Thanks for trying the game and for the great feedback ^v^
Cool but janky game !
The main mechanic if great but the automatic ledge jumps and janky gear (you really need to not hold the click for the gear otherwise it will spin it twice)
The art is also great, same for the music
I don't know how i missed the "holding click spins gear twice" bug during the 4 days during which i created the game, that alone shows how important getting people to playtest your game is x)
Submitted 4 days and 47 minutes before the deadline? Impressive!
3 minutes right after submissions opened to be exact ✨✨✨
🤔 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
I had issue figuring out the controls, but I love the style
Issues with the controls seem to be a problem for a good amount of folk here, platformer controls aren't something i was too knowledgable about so mistakes were made ^^
I need to learn how to make actually good tutorials i think 🤔
Loved the cutesy art style and the run cycle fun . but couldnt figure out the jumping..... maybe I just need to get good . Need to reach the top !
Kind of jank controls I couldn't go super far because I struggled with platforming DX
That being said, the art and concept is super charming and cute! Great job!
I like the original artwork style. Was a bit too hard for me though I tried several times and could only get a few of the switches before the dial knocked me out
Great concept, took me a second to get the hang of but it's a lot of fun. Love the artwork.
music is jam
congrats on being the first to submit omg
