How does the game fit the theme?
This is a game about keeping the late night pawn shop dealing with hustlers and street rats, so you literally can trust no one to survive

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
Third party assets:

- Music by LudoLoon Studio : https://ludoloonstudio.itch.io/techno-purgatory
- Character models by Elbolilloduro : https://elbolilloduro.itch.io/characters-psx
- Bottle asset by Stay Retro : https://stay-retro.itch.io/psx-ps1-alcohol-bottles-low-poly-asset-pack

**P.S.** Bellow is the list of game from this jam I played, found very good and recommend you to play and rate as they, I believe, do deserve way more attention and rates:

- Beautiful and cleverly designed deck builder about dating with an interesting twist: /jam/brackeys-16/rate/4953649
- A short yet extremely creative and beautiful puzzle where you are a detective and your clones a suspects: /jam/brackeys-16/rate/4934996
- Surreal and high octane acid food taster sim: /jam/brackeys-16/rate/4942051
- Cute, cozy and very well done detective sim in a magic kingdom. Give your self some rest and play this hidden gem: /jam/brackeys-16/rate/4953482
- A slow paced puzzle shooter with cool visuals and overall vibe: /jam/brackeys-16/rate/4949768

The game fits the theme perfectly!  Honestly this is probably one of the best matches for the game here. It is simple to understand and it feels weirdly fun even though the game is pretty repetitive. Very well done with the  game design! The artstyle is good, textlines are  good. The bargain minigame is simple but it has its own vibe to it. The NPCs are well made  and they do know their things. Very good job on the game!

Thanks a lot for playing and for the kind review!

Great game! I loved the PS1 aesthetic and atmosphere. I think it would be nice if there was more variety in which option to pick is best. It felt like lowballing was always the right choice. Maybe if you fail the skill check you shouldn't be allowed to pick a different price so it feels more risky.

Developer

Thank you for playing and for the suggestions! The game could for sure benefit from the proper rebalance and adding some difficulty and options for the player!

Hey there! Congrats on making such a cool game with a neat concept within a week! Graphics and feeling of over-present threat in the form of that loan shark is really well done!

I recorded my playthrough and honest reactions to the game, you can check it out here:

Keep up the good work!

Very cool concept! Like Paper Please for street dealers. Great visuals and love the psychedelic PS1 vibes.

can you do me a favor of rating my submition too, it would be appriciated

Developer

Done, for some reason itch block me from leaving a comment on your submission’s page, so here are my few cents:

Interesting idea and a solid working game jam game.

Some critique:

  • No clear goal. And as the game is kinda repetitive it is hard to keep your self playing after you uncovered few daemons.
  • No hint for the player regarding the fact you have to use cctv to uncover daemons, not a big issue, but as the NPCs look kinda wired I was not sure if I should pass any of them at first.
  • Some wire music could add a lot to the atmosphere.

Overall - congrats on finishing the game!

thanks for rating my submition. i know it was repetitive, also the goals were defined in rules. (maybe i failed to explain those or soemthing else) but anyways your review is appriciated, i know their is a lot which can be improved upon. to be honest the team also has plans to release this as a Play Store game after jam.

Good you have such an ambition, but you have to at least polish the game strongly, otherwise you will just waste $25 submission fee. The mobile gaming market is oversaturated, large companies invest billions in marketing campaigns to get players and players thus have very high expectations in terms of the product quality.

So, I advice you to be realistic about that. Research the market, check alike games and work on the product quality at least up to the average on the market. This will still not guarantee any success because it’s impossible for the individual to compete with mobile game corporation, but will at least increase some minor success probability a bit.

No, the jam had my up for days, I think my reaction time is on me!

That was cool! I had a similar idea with pawn shop, but couldn't push it further than just reskin "papers please". Really glad someone can realize that idea so cool!

I think all I bought was fake :'(
This was a fun game.

Thank you for playing! Yep, it’s a grey shop visited by grey people, so trust no one when buying stuff.

I loved the PSX look. Retro grading with these fast paced games is really getting popular recently. I also used the same PSX characters btw, that guy is a lifesaver. Pawnshop + PSX, really cool combo. I wish to see more lore, maybe traps to get me into more debt. Well done!

Thanks for playing and for suggestiongs!

Love the storytelling and the noir atmosphere in the game, very fun gameplay loop! The amount of polish in this is very impressive for a 7 day game jam, solid work overall.

Downloaded and played. Super enjoyed this one. Maybe a little intro scene about people not trusting low genuity items would help.

Developer

Thank you very much for taking the effort to check the game out, besides your early issues with the web build! Happy you have not been disappointed!

Yep, lore is kinda completely missing here, need to work on that in a post jam version.

I was wondering why this game was the most popular until I played it. My most enjoyable game in this jam so far. I would buy it post jam if it will be developed more in  variety of gameplay mechanisms.

Developer

Thank you very much for such a great feedback!

the vibe, artwork, and audio are all pretty nice, and the gameplay loop is clear and easy.

if you continue working on this, i'd play again.  I think it'd be nice to have a little more choices or strategy.  Also being able to see the basis (price paid) for the stock would be handy, just to see how much profit is landing per item (I forget how much I paid for each item when the opportunity to sell comes).

Developer

Thank you for playing and for the detailed feedback! Maybe I will work on a post jam version later!

You actually can see the price for which you bought the item, it is on TV, along with other stats, but it turned out placing important was not the best idea from the UX perspective.

One of the best games from what I have played, actually have some game play loop.  Visuals are interesting, maybe small tutorial would help, but I guess it is just my problem, that I haven't read the About info. XD
