I really like this game! So simple and creepy! Thank you!

Very interesting game here! Didn't know where this one was going to go next.

This is definitely the most uncomfortable a game has made me feel in this jam so far. The aesthetics and atmosphere are done so well here and everything around the main gameplay was so polished and complete, like the newsletter which was a lot of fun to read.
I have some nitpicks like the character lines that disappear automatically when I'd rather do it with an input from the player, and the lack of clarity at times like the woman who vanishes at the graveyard where I could only guess I should take another photo from the front.
Overall really good work here!

IM SO SAD, i couldn't finish the game. I dont think its a me problem because my ctrl works, but the game wouldnt register me hitting control so I kinda  got soft locked. I even tried downloading the game and it still didnt work sadly.

HOWEVER I do really like this game.  I love the UI of the computer screen, the environment you set up and just how creepy everyone looks. As someone who also does photography, I think the camera mechanics are perfect, and the way they tell you "go left", "go right" is so real.  I think on the second client, I got a bit paranoid and looked behind me to make sure there wasn't a jumpscare or something.

But honestly great game, and concept.

Goodness me, I was so scared when she wrote that she’d left a present for me in the forest. I was worried she’d do something to Dale and his axe. Thankfully, that character’s fine.

Joking aside, it’s a really good game. It gave me the same experience as a full-fledged short horror game. The only thing that slightly messed up the experience was that sometimes the game doesn’t realise I’m pointing the camera straight at the character:

And also, main character, are you dumb? Mate, just go and buy a camera already – you’ve already got $1,500

Apart from that, I liked the number of little details and jokes, which add to the atmosphere or lighten the tension at times. And I haven’t even started talking about the visual style yet – it really helps to create the game’s creepy atmosphere.

Overall, it’s a very good, solid game.

Also, just a small question: were some of the screenshots on the game’s page taken during earlier stages of development? Or have they been slightly altered on purpose?

Developer

Taken earlier on development, we were panicking a bit on the deadline since the actual coding process started a day before the actual deadline haha. So placements on triggers, story direction for the jam, interactiveness, and overall immersion could not be completed on time and we had to make a slightly completed state just for the jam itself. (Example was the newsletter updating after every single commission taken on the email tab (where we instead opted to place all the little story details we had for the related commissions on the email) and the camera ending where as you said, reaching the goal for the camera) In any case, thanks for playing and we are happy that you enjoyed it

Honest review:

Good horror atmosphere with a creepy vibe to it.

I stopped playing after the women vanishes at the grave yard.  I think there was supposed to be a transition, but nothing happened.  I wandered around for a while until closing it down.  Seemed like a bug.

Screen flickers really badly when playing in browser.  I couldn't find a way to turn off the crt effect, so just played the windows version instead.

Nice visuals and audio.  Although, I did notice some clipping.

yeah unfortunately we are aware of this issue, there was supposed to be a little telltale that you're supposed to continue taking pictures which should trigger the ending (on this jam version) but it didn't work the way it was supposed to and updating it was late now so it was left at that. that is an issue we aim to fix after the jam though. clipping issue is noted.  thanks for playing and hope you enjoyed :D

Great job on creating an unsettling atmosphere!

Feels like a complete experience, and the photography mechanic keeps it from feeling too much like a standard visual novel. Really love how uncanny everything is!

Honestly one of the cooler looking games I have encountered and definitely innovative. Bruh the jump scare I got laying in bad and then seeing one of those horrifying "people" was too funny. But the camera effect and the menu vfx was so well done and clean.

OMG, it's so scary lol I really like the way you tell the story. The visual gives a creepy vibe and matches the story so well. Great work :)

Really cool game! Great job!

Blown away that you made this in a week. would have loved more with the ending but overall really good story. The art style really set the tone using the uncanny valley to create paranoia. Horror Pokemon Snap sign me up any day!

5/5 game. Love the atmosphere and reading the "News" lore, kinda sets the whole thing. Also the whole style is very uneasy, just can't stop doubting these people I photograph. Really nailed the overall theme "Trust no One". Awesome job!

Very nice visuals that really put the creepy atmosphere well! I also liked the little newspaper in the game that you guys added. The narrative and visuals make a really well a untrusthworthy feeling towards the npc's and location, which fits the theme well.

Man why are so many entries  so creepy? This one feels like a crushed beetle... ugh. That means you guys did a good job I think!

My favourite part was everyone congratulating me on being a great photographer, while telling me exactly how to do my job. You had me inching with all the characters, not knowing which one is going to turn.

This entry is dripping with atmosphere, you really nailed the creepiness and the character art is really good it gives me No i'm not a human vibes. the mechanic is also very unique it really stands out and it adds a lot to the uncomfortable scenarios
