Play as Anne, a pirate selling her "old gold" and other antiques to a modern museum.

- Some of the items are actually made of gold.
- The once ordinary items from Anne's life are now valuable "gold" to the museum.

Heys, really enjoyed the harpoon mechanic and it became very satisfying to find where to go. I liked the old gold you could collect and the uh varied prices you might get for things. The sea texture has already been mentioned so i won’t mention it here. Interpreting the logic of where things were hidden became a nice little puzzle in itself. Hidden corners and ends of puzzle sections was very nice. Well done.

Developer

I'm glad you enjoyed the puzzles and the movement!

Thanks for playing!

I had a really hard time with the palette, especially near the water, so I unfortunately couldn't play it for very long. But the *art itself* is really cute, and from what I did play I enjoyed. I'm sorry I couldn't play more to give more meaningful feedback.

Developer

I'm very sorry about the water, that is a very common problem point that keeps coming up.

I will post an updated version after the jam ends with a more mild water effect that I hope will help.

I'm glad you enjoyed the art!

I'll check it out after you upload it!

Cute signals for treasure to dig and overall smart stage design, I think I ran into a softlock on one side though sadly. While I enjoyed digging around and finding the diagonal sea patter becaume quite tiring/trippy to my eyes, even more as if you diagonally down it seems to be vibrating, which is either cobblestoning or just a visual “artifact” of the pattern, but it did disallow me to play for a long time.

Graphics wise other that the sea patter I like what you had, the color palette is punchy but not offensive, walks that fine line well.

SFX and music were cute, well done on those!

Overall cool idea and entry!

Developer

Thank you! I wasn't sure how the main loop would land so I'm glad it seems to work out well!

I've had a few people mention how jarring the water effect is, it's something I definitely plan to change once the jam ends.

Submitted(+1)

It is an interesting puzzle to try to tune into what you as a developer think is a clue on a treasure and what I think it is but actually not!

Developer

There are also definitely spots that I would have liked to put some that are empty due to running out of treasures to put down (I only made 64 of them)

Submitted(+1)

Nice little exploration game! The way treasure is hidden reminds me of how it is in the Golden Sun games, so thanks for the shot of nostalgia haha

Developer(+1)

Haha that's great to hear! Golden Sun is one of my all time favorites!

This game is really nice ! I like how you were able to make to make such colorful and varied environments with only 4 colors, good use of patterns. I was so happy when I find all the pirate ships.

There are so much different antiques to find. I wasn't able to find them all... but still filled a good part of the museum, and enjoyed reading the little texts.

Some feedback : the player doesn't know he has to press A to interact with NPC and other elements, I think an input prompt would help. Also at some point I went too far and it took me a while to find the TP again, mabye a map, or just an arrow to avoid getting lost. I also find a glitch to escape the bounds around the museum entrance, but I think you should keep it, OOB is fun.

Nice soundtrack, but my favourite detail about the audio is the different walking sound depending on what tile you are.

I'll come back to play after the jam, I'm hyped if you add the things you had to cut off after the jam.

Really good job !

Developer

Thank you! I put most of my effort into the antique collecting, level art and design, and museum system so I'm glad it paid off!

I'm very happy with how the step system turned out and I'm glad you like it.

I was considering making the prompt switch, but forgot and probably wouldn't have prioritized it even if I remembered

I thought it was in the controls description but I see now I forgot to add it there too.

I've gotten a few people saying the map was easy to get lost in,. I tried to keep an air of mystery but I think something subtle like an arrow could definitely help. That said, due to how the map is laid out I don't know if it would actually help you get back very well...

I probably won't add the sword in, as that would require a lot of work and I have a personal project I want to get back to. I do plan to adjust some things with the audio and add a save system. I can probably put a direction indicator and interact prompt as well.

Submitted

The arrow would still help, for the general direction. I agree the sword isn't that important.

Good luck !

Really liked this one! Exploring around and finding all the little treasures was really fun, and the world is so colorful and nice to look at. The whole game feels really cozy and has a great Gameboy vibe. Nice work :D

(pls play play my game)

Developer

Thank you, I'm glad you had a great time!

I'll play your game after work today if I get a chance.

This was exactly a game for me. I had fun exploring around for everything. It was fun looking around  like "hmmm, I feel like there's something here" and then there was! My biggest gripes are that some of the ground tiles are hard to interpret, so I didn't know I could step on certain things until I did by accident, and it's pretty easy to get turned around exploring for treasures. A map of some kind would be incredibly helpful.

You did a great job with a lot of the treasure items though! Most of the time when I thought there would be an item, there was, which was neat, and you made the dig radius pretty generous which keeps it from getting frustrating, since if you solve the puzzle it doesn't tend to matter if you aren't standing right over top of it, so I liked that a lot!

Developer(+1)

Thank you!

> "hmmm, I feel like there's something here" [...] Most of the time when I thought there would be an item, there was

That's exactly the vibe I was shooting for, I'm glad my idea landed well and you had fun!

I was considering a map, I may have implemented one if I had more time but I'm unsure. I wanted to lean into the "you don't know anything" aspect, but I definitely agree some areas are confusing to navigate (especially the water sections).

How many treasures did you find?

Submitted(+1)

I ended up finding, I think 30? I had to stop myself or I would have been sat there forever trying to find the rest hahaha. I think I did explore all of the map regions though! I think you did a good job with the "you don't know anything" aspect! It came across well, and genuinely this style of exploration puzzle-y based on environment cues is fantastic and my favorite type. =D I'll probably try and sit and find them all later

Developer

If you go for the 100%, there is a map on the game page that spoils them all, otherwise if you message me in the jam server I may be able to give you a hint about the ones you're missing! (Can check the museum empty spots)

Submitted(+1)

I really enjoyed being able to hookshot the museum curator to speed up my turn ins. Ambitious color scheme executed well. Scale a little too big for me to play in one go, but overall a pretty solid loop. If I could save, put it it down, pick it up later casually, it would help a lot, though I acknowledge this is out of scope for a lot of jam games. Very nice entry.

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I'm glad to hear you had fun!

I may be able to implement a save that works even with the web version pretty easily, I'll try it out after the jam ends!

This game really feels like an adventure while being mindful of the GB's capabilities. Such diverse environments that don't ever use tile transparency or, of course, more than 4 colours. This palette is performing miracles, speaking of. I can tell the devs really love the GB.

The one thing I'd have to say something about is the music. It's not that it's bad; far from it, it's quite good. It's just that each track could be longer, could have variations according to biome, etc. given that you're going to be listening to them for quite a while.

Also, the axolotl pirate is incredibly cute!

Great game!

Developer(+1)

Thank you! I definitely have a soft spot for top down action adventures and try to pick a colorful palette that lets me represent everything I want to without just being monochrome. I see people do beautiful things with monochrome palettes but I just don't have the interest in it I guess.

I did everything but the music and sfx, our bgm composer (Sal) was pretty busy and only had time for the two tracks. Originally I was going to have different biomes be different screens, and they actually commented a few days before the end that they wished they could do more themes for each biome.

I'm glad you like the pirate, she was tricky to sprite, I'm still getting used to character art haha.

Submitted(+1)

Very good game. On theme, with authentic GB art and direct gameplay actions.

I've got stuck exploring for the first time (maybe the rocks were just a bit out of the frame so I couldn't see the way forward or back), but I've tried again. Didn't get too many treasures since after some I felt the task would be a bit too repetitive, but I've really enjoyed the game in general.

As for feedback, I get that you wanted the museum to be big, but it's too much. With only 4 items there I had to spend minutes trying to find them. This mixed with a very repetitive music was a bit annoying. The world music though didn't feel repetitive, it sounded pretty good. The hook is a great mechanic and makes a lot of room for level design (risky in some cases since it might be annoying to use the hook and be slightly over the water tiles to be sent back).

I think the annoyances of big map or having to repeat a hook are part of the gameboy feel though, so not really a problem.

Good job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing and for the feedback!

When I did play test passes to eliminate hook soft locks, I accidentally added a few so I'm sorry about that.

Submitted(+1)

Amazing game! Makes you feel like a treasure hunter. I managed to collect 47 items got exhausted afterwards but had fun. I also love the museum music.

Developer(+1)

47 is the highest I've seen! Well done and thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

I love how all the items you collect appear in the museum, it makes progression more fun. Also nice colour palette too, using 4 different colours instead of shades makes the visuals more unique.

Developer

Thank you!

Submitted(+1)

Where this is on point, it's a gorgeous game. Where it's off, it's a little jarring, like the water. Still, it's more good than off, for sure. It's got a lot too it, and that's amazing in and of itself. I think it's well put together Absolutely love the palette.

Developer

Thanks! I tried to pick a palette that would let me represent everything and still be colorful!

I've gotten multiple comments about the water being hard on the eyes, so I'll go back and change it after the jam ends!

I managed to collect 24 treasures.  I tried to stop at 16, but ran into another 8 before I found my way home -_-.  Really impressive world size and detail!  I found (and then later spent way too much time trying to abuse) what I assume is a bug - it seems the black danger zone only respawns you on a timer, so if you take little halting steps you can move while it's not respawning and then stand still, and get across up to 3-4 of these tiles that way... It seemed like there were some places I couldn't reasonably get to / out of without abusing this though (especially on the right, there was a big harpoon area, I found a bunch of treasure, but I couldn't find any way off without walking across 2 danger tiles... quite possibly I missed something though, it's a big map!).  Just wandering around did get a little old long before I got all the treasure though, it would have been good to have either some other mechanics, like buying some new upgrade that lets you get past certain obstacles, to keep it fresh.

The sound was really nice, I was still enjoying the music by the end and it was quite nice having even different footstep sounds for what I'm walking on!

Developer

Thanks for playing, I'm glad you had fun!

Originally, you would start with a sword and unlock swimming and the harpoon by collecting treasures or finding them, but that had to be cut for time.

The water walking "bug" is deliberate, the step is only checked on a 1/4 second interval, so you can abuse that to walk across water. I did it as an homage to the hovering glitch from Zelda: A Link to the Past.

The harpoon area on the right was accidentally made unsolvable when I was "fixing" it (there was no rock to get back, so I added one, blocking off the way to get IN). Everything else should be possible without the bug!

I posted a map of all the treasure locations at the bottom of the page if you're curious.

Submitted(+1)

Very cozy and chilly game! The different sounds for the terrain types and the vast variety of the world overall create a nice and relaxing experience. Reading the subtle clues in the way the obstacles were placed felt satisfying and was a good use of the limited map design a gameboy game would have. It would have been great to talk to more NPCs while searching around. But, still, I really liked your interpretation of the secondary theme!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! I always find myself looking for secrets where there aren't any in games, so I figured I'd try to make a game out of that.

I was going to add some NPCs in the pirate area, and some progression mechanics, but didn't really have time.

How many treasures did you find?

Submitted(+1)

I think it worked very well! I only found 20 for now. But I somehow missed the whole pirate ship I'm now seeing in the screenshots, so I'm counting on finding more.

Submitted(+1)

So much to look for, and so easy to loose oneself in the bizarre colourful world.

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you! I'm glad you liked the art and world!

Submitted(+1)

I had the most fun just zipping around with the harpoon :D

Developer

Haha I'm glad! It was my favorite addition!

Submitted

Man, you're good at hiding things!
I wandered around for a while and only found 7 treasures. Finding them all will be a real challenge, and I love that!
One thing that could help is a faster way back to the portal, since I couldn't remember the way I came, haha.
The music is very chill and well-made, even though it's just a looping melody!
Very, very good job!

Developer

Thanks for playing!

I was thinking about how to make getting back faster (it is in the center of the island), but I couldn't think of a way that felt right. You don't really need to go there until you want to sell, since there's no bag limit or anything!
