Getting it ready for the itch deck

Admin (2 edits)

We have some updates for jam hosts today.

Jam Submission Requirements

Jam submission requirements let jam hosts set a list of requirements a project must meet before it can be submitted. You’ll find them in the new Submission requirements section of the jam edit page.

Screenshot of Submission requirements

Here’s what’s available today:

  • Generative AI disclosure: Require entrants to fill out the generative AI disclosure on their project, or only accept projects that disclose no generative AI was used.
  • Pricing: Require a free download, meaning at least one file that can be downloaded without paying (demos of paid projects count), or only accept free projects with no price and no paid files.
  • Platforms: Require files for specific platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, or browser. You can accept projects with any one of the selected platforms, or require all of them. A platform counts when the project has at least one file for it, and browser means a playable HTML build.
  • Timing: Only accept projects created after the jam started, or projects whose first file was uploaded after the jam started.
  • Not submitted to another jam: Only accept projects that haven’t been entered in any other jam.

When someone submits, the submit dialog shows a checklist of the requirements for the selected project, and only projects that pass every requirement can be submitted. Requirements are checked at submission time, so changing them later does not affect existing entries.

Updated Field Editor

With this update, we’ve also re-implemented the fields editor for jams. As a reminder, fields allow you to collect additional information from participants along with their submission.

Field editor screenshot

The new editor allows you to easily edit the choices for single and multiple choice fields without having to manually write CSV. Anything that can be reordered also conveniently now has drag and drop handles. The field editor also collapses by default, so it’s easier to navigate the jam edit page once you’ve set up all of your fields.

If you have any more ideas for jam submission requirements please share them in this thread.

Thanks!

A little late… but now publishing a modern .love file that should work the most recent version of Love. Enjoy :)

It’s a bug caused by the poster who keep deleting and reposting to “bump” the topic. The number of deleted post rows hit a threshold where it broke pagination. I’ve reset the topic so that it should render again correctly as a short term fix for that topic. Thanks

“ai-assisted” is not a common tag that creators use, so the exclusion filter you are applied effectively does nothing. We apply a special “No AI” tag to pages where creators have specified their pages do not use generated AI. You can access it like this: /games/platform-web/tag-no-ai

Any “moderator” of the community/comment thread in question has the power to approve comments. itch.io may also approve comments in some scenarios.

We’re aware the UI/UX for approval is janky right, we’re working on unified page in your dashboard for comment approval across all communities moderated by that account.

Do all of them show up here? /my-purchases/bundles

Mega bundles are now properly handled in the app. Please avoid running any scripts to hammer our server, there are only disadvantages as it can mess with how your account normally operates.

We replaced how search works in the latest update: /updates/itch-app-bundle-support-launch-args-and-more

  • Autocomplete now only matches local projects by title
  • There’s a link to bring your search query up on the full site search

Sorry it was so janky for so long

This has been addressed in the latest update: /updates/itch-app-bundle-support-launch-args-and-more

You can now install “unsupported” files that have platform mismatch with the app’s latest update. More info here: /updates/itch-app-bundle-support-launch-args-and-more

We’ve also added a command launch options to allow running the executable with a wrapper.

Sorry about the issue everyone, didn’t do suitable testing on macos before some recent changes. I’ve just pushed out 26.18.0 which should fix the issue. Since the app crashes you’ll have to reinstall the app with itch setup since the auto updater isn’t able to run.

Admin

We pushed out a hotfix v26.18.0 to address a MacOS crashing issue. You may need to reinstall the app from the setup program if you’re stuck in a crash loop: /app

Please do not create fake accounts/ratings to boost your own game (or tell your friends to). Because of our rating queue requirement it means that if you create a new account to try to boost your own game you create a bunch of fake ratings that negatively impact other participants. If we see future issues with your account you may be permanently banned from jams.

Thanks

Please don’t create fake accounts or tell your friends to create fake accounts to vote boost your page.

This is the final warning, or you will be banned from jams.

Looks indexed from what I can see /search?q=Crypt+Dungeon+Crawler

I was able to fix this out, will be fixed in the next app update. Thanks for the report, tricky one!

No admin review needed. Your account’s tax profile is going through the standard verification process which may take day or two. It will automatically update when done. Payouts are “blocked” during this phase because a validated tax profile is required for the payout to be processed. If there is an issue with your information then you will be notified.

Admin

Your account has been reviewed and is now eligible for indexing, thanks for your patience.

Windows 7 is no longer supported, sorry. https://github.com/itchio/itch/releases/tag/v26.1.9 is the last release for Windows 7 but I do not recommend using very old versions for security reasons.

Admin

You’re all set, cleaned up 2685 keys across 2 bundle purchases

Admin (1 edit)

I can run an update on your account to clean up your library. I’m guessing you ran a third party script to “add” all the bundle games to your library. We strongly advise against doing that.

The script I will run will remove all entries from bundles in your direct library that you haven’t downloaded. This will also unsubscribe you from emails as a direct owner. Please confirm if you’d like me to run this on your account by replying.

Thanks

Admin (1 edit)

The account owner must contact us. If something about their account has changed that prevents them from contacting us with the email address that owns the account, then they will need to provide evidence to prove ownership.

Admin

I took a closer look at your account and can confirm the numbers add up. There are two things going on here.

First, the ~$620 shown on the sale page is the gross amount buyers paid across the 113 purchases from your sale. The payouts page works with net amounts, so after payment processor fees and revenue sharing that comes out to around ~$535.

Second, and this is the bigger factor, your account has 30% tax withholding applied based on the tax interview you completed. The balances on the payouts page are shown after withholding. That brings the payable amount from your sale to around ~$375. If you think the 30% rate shouldn’t apply to you, for example if your country has a tax treaty with the US or you didn’t provide a tax ID when filling out the interview, you can update your tax information from your seller settings to get the rate reduced.

As for pending vs available: your sale ended July 6th, so by the time you posted, most of the sale purchases were already older than 7 days and had moved from your pending balance into your available balance. The pending balance only reflects purchases from the last 7 days, which is why it kept shrinking rather than growing after the sale ended.

Your pending and available balances combined currently cover the full sale amount plus your other recent purchases, net of fees and withholding. Nothing is missing from what I can see.

I’m not telling you have to be famous. I’m just trying to give you a realistic understanding of how things are. Showing up in the new and recently updated page for a brief moment isn’t going to make you successful. You’re going to have to do a lot of work on your end, and don’t expect itch.io to magically make your game take off, especially if you’re essentially a relatively new account. You have to build a community like every other creator.

Admin

We don’t make any guarantee that a major update will provide a boost to your game. I encourage you to operate your game as normal without the assumption that itchio will automatically give your traffic. Once your page establishes reputation in our system then it’s more likely that your update posts can contribute to a boost in our algorithm.

Your game page is otherwise indexed.

Thanks

In the future please read the rules of the board before posting, titles like “HELP ME”, etc. are not allowed.

Your account has been reviewed and is now eligible for indexing.

Blog posts are handled separately, and a pre-requisite is having your page indexed. So it should be picked up by indexing soon.

Thanks
