Hehehe that's fun.
Great art style. I love eyeballs moving on shop vendors -- I've done that in a few jams now.

Good gameplay loop, but it needs a goal to work towards.

Obviously following the box becomes impossible, then it's just like gambling, and trying to build your deck to have more good things than bad. I think there's a lot of potential here.

Great submission!

Overall a great polished entry, with nice details like the sound effects in the shop for the not buyable items and a unique and consistent art style. As far as points of feedback:

It took me a bit to notice the < button for the shop.

Second point, I don't know if it was meant to be free to reroll, but with the fake-gold ring i rerolled alot to gain infinite money without playing a single round with mimics.

That's all I'd add... so overall I had a blast playing your submission.

Developer

That was the exact goal! Knowing jam games are short, I wanted to let players break the game however they want—the money ring is one of those options. Free rerolls aren't bugs either; they let you throw together a broken build quickly without wasting time, so you can go play other games

Amazing game, i love the art work and the goblin eyes, it was really fun to play.

There's a point you hit where the chests are moving so fast I gave up trying to follow it, haha. It was fun getting to that point. Stocking up on as many + extra heart chances along-side being able to re-roll without a cost (as far as I could tell) really let you make a broken build, which is fun for a small game like this. I am biasedly in favour of the theme as well haha.

If you did want to push balance a bit, I'd imagine adding an escalating cost to the re-rolls + forcing the player to open at least x% of chests (where x is say, 1/4 of the number of non-mimic chests, rounded down) might force players to be a little less "I'm going to re-roll until I have more hearts showing up then mimics" as I was. But like I said, the broken-ness was fun.

All up, great work!

Developer

Thanks for such detailed feedback! I considered charging a cost for spawning mimics and rerolling the shop for balance, but for a short jam game, I figured it was better to keep them free so anyone could build a crazy, game-breaking combo if they wanted to.

At first, I didn’t realize how important the shop was, but once I figured it out, it was hard to stop playing. The item combinations are really nice. Great game!

Really addicting small game. I ended up stacking so many perks that I became like an isekai protagonist and tanked all the mimic damage. I also stacked so many cursed coins that I kept getting like a billion coins per chest opened. Downside is that my coin count went into integer overflow and I went into the negatives. What a banger game. Would love to see more.

Lmao, what a chad. Make sure to take a screenshot next time though!

Fun game, nice visuals and I love the little details such as the eyes of the merchant following the cursor

The art is awesome! I love the stacking effects, I am an artifact hoarder

this was seriously amazing. loved the game play, the art was spot on, and it really fit the theme. I played it for a really long time and was glad there wasn't a limit to the amount of stuff you could have (or if there was I didn't find it).

Great artsyle!  I do feel like it is a bit too easy though

I really like the art, but I think the use of the theme is a bit basic, given the fact you know which chest to pick and the vendor does not lie. It becomes better the longer you go on, after you add more speed and chests, but I think the fact you can simply choose how many chests you can pick removes much of the risk reward. I think this type of game would fit better on a level-based system, but overall an enjoyable experience.

I'm really glad you didn't hold back and gave honest feedback - I love comments like that! In my defense, though, the theme was 'Trust No One', which doesn't necessarily mean lies. The theme kicks in when 50 chests are flying across your screen at high speed, making it physically impossible to track them, so you can't truly trust a single one 100%. I did think about doing a level-based progression, but decided to stick with the shop and items instead, as balancing linear levels to be neither too hard nor too boring for a jam would've been really tricky. This way, you can just craft whatever build you want at your own pace. Either way, thanks a lot for playing and leaving a review!

I actually dig the art! Come see my Mimic game if you can!

Really fun game! I really like the style, and I love the music!

I like it, it's good in everything that it needs to be good at and is a coesive package. Good job!

This was a great game and I loved the unique art!  The eyes of the goblin following your curser was awesome.

I realized too late that I couldn't get rid of the cursed item... the screenshot doesn't show this, but the chests are moving at light speed! I love this game - super addicting. Also love the art.

Was a bit bewildered to find a shell game, but I really like what you did with this. Very playful way to extend the original idea and amazing presentation.

Uprades were maybe too expensive and not impactful enough ? I felt like it took me a bit too long to get to the point where the game started becoming challenging.

Developer

Yeah, I felt like saving up takes a while at first, but if you immediately rush the money-scaling items, you can basically break the game in like 5 minutes. Thanks for playing
