INSANE STORYTELLING

Submitted(+1)

I really enjoyed this one, it is very skillfully made and the atmosphere is just right as the aesthetic decisions all combine to create an eerie, Inscryption-esque/Undertale-like experience.
I have two main critics though:
A. There is no surprise/turning point in the story. The direction of the plot is quite clear from the get-go and it keeps on progressing in that path without any new twists or reveals.
B. For me, it leans a bit too much on being an interactive story/experience rather than a game. By which I mean there isn't really much of a challenge the player needs to overcome. Just walk around, pick some flowers occasionalyand progress the dialogue. I do think that using 'Simon Says' as a game mechanic is clever and has a lot of untapped potential as a game mechanic.
Of course this is a matter of taste and preference, and doesn't detract from the highlights the game already achieved, and accomplishing it in the timeframe of a jam is impressive.
Well done.

For such a small time period, this is insanely polished! Pixel art is incredible, music is really good, game fits the theme well, and the gameplay is very smooth! Also love all the references to Omega Flowey, Aqua, man face, and lots more that I definitely missed!

Very much enjoyed this one, definitely one of my favorites so far! Keep it up :D

I also saw the other comment about Gaster eggman, and HE'S THERE that's really really cool nice job dude XD

Really cool game! It was very immersive, and I really liked the real life video clips. Great job!

Cool game, The FMV portions were a nice way to frame the story, and made me think of inscription.  Wanted to play back through and see how my choices would affect the game but grew tired of the slow walk speed after the first time around. Still, it had an intriguing story, and I liked the little moments like the cable reaching for your phone. Great job

This game is absolutely incredible and if I could hand it the gamejam win I would.
The art is amazing. I really like the style, and the screen grime and distortion were really cool.
The blend of the game and IRL scenes was really good, and both were well written and fit the theme really well.
Great job!!!

Great game! Although I have a feeling that S.I.M.O.N. might not actually be entirely honest with me

Overall, this was really good! I liked the IRL cutscenes, really set the stage well. The Omega Flowey and JX1DX1 faces were cool references(Although personally I would have made the Flowey one be more of a reference and not his final form). I wish there were more branching paths, but that's mostly because I liked the game so much. Let me end by saying

I KNEW IT I FREAKING KNEW IT!!! THERE IS ONE ROOM TRANSITION IN THE WHOLE GAME, AND THE TREES LOOK THE SAME AS THE DELTARUNE ONES, HE IS BEHIND THE TREEEEEEEEE

Ok I freaked out IRL when I saw that it's a nice touch :) also it looks like I'm the first one to see this??? Or at least to comment about it? W game good job man

Bullfrog did it again! What an interesting and creative game. I enjoyed the real life footage and the storybuilding. I am very curious what would have happened if I freed Simon

What an incredible game !! The atmosphere is skillfully gloomy, the story gave me goosebumps, the cutscenes breaking the fourth wall really are powerfull ! Here are the very few areas for improvement I see in the game :
(watchout for spoilers if you are reading this without having played the game, you really should it's great)
- The biggest drawback of your game in my opinion is the walking speed. I understand that it's made to imitate retro games, but it feels really slow. In a way it's a good thing because the sprint ability Simmon gives you truly feels like a reward. But I think a faster character with more responsive controls would have been more pleasant. I think replaying the game to see the different endings might seem like a "task" for some players.
- I was also surprised to see that Simmon uses the "Game Over" as a pressure point when you refuse to give it it's second update. It feels incoherent because he seems to want the player to stay in the game more than anything, right ?
- And last tiny thing : when Simmon asked me for it's first upgrade, the choice of words made me think at first that we were still playing "Simmon Says", so it confused me a tiny bit lol.
That's all for the drawbacks, everything else was 10/10, absolutely loved your game, best game contender right here 🫵

I really liked this game! However, I am just gonna stick to critiques for this comment as many of the other comments already make compliments that I would make. I didn't really like the fact that you used the face of omega flowey for when simon was deteriorating. It made the game feel very unoriginal. Also, this is a game jam so this can only really be treated as a nitpick cuz you wouldn't have been able to combat this really, but I don't really like how the game siphons all of the choices you can make into only 2 concrete endings placed at the same point(ik theres death and the cube, but those dont feel very much like endings. I dont think they are). I feel like that spinning cube in the no mans land should have more of a role. Also, the "START" button in the simon app doesnt have a hover animation and just stays static. You should make it fade like the start menu buttons. Great game though!
