This game was really cute. I think the control scheme could use a little work and the clues themselves it would be nice to be able to see what is interactable a little more easily. Additionally when re-entering places the dialogue should probably not play again unless there's something new. Navigating around via clicking on the windows didn't feel that good and if you were to make it real time walking around you could make it so that time progressed when you changed rooms instead of just using up increments or in real time you know what I mean. Overall very cute game, good job on this.

I was able to find the culprit YAY!
I really love the pixel art inside the building, it's gorgeous! The music is really fitting too!
I also love that you find contradicting clues, They're very clever and made the game fit the theme really well!
I also think the difficulty was reasonable.

My critiques:
I personally think there's no real point in finding the note that contains info already gathered by the player themselves. If I'm not mistaken, everything in the note was already told to the player. And since all detectives already have a note, why not just give it at the start?

I think the UI could use some polish. I don't think it really matched the vibe of the rooms.
The apartment pixel art felt slightly rushed too (Maybe due to time constraints)
And of course, the game need some SFX!

Other than that, really nice game! Great Work!

E to advance dialog was not expected. I jumped straight into the game, wondering why I can't get past the first frame. I would add left-click or Enter. There were a number of times when I didn't know what I could or couldn't interact with. Something that highlights would help a lot. I love the idea of actions taking time, so if you don't follow a hunch and try to do the classic video game "talk to everyone" thing, you could lose.

I love hidden object games with element of i nvestigation.

I've experience a confusion with your game, because in the initial scenes, there were no name tags on the characters i'm speaking with. Also it's good to have indication of the room while you are in this particular room.

The items that were required searching (shadowed ones)  were not very proportionate and some of them were almost impossible to recognize at first.

Overall was a nice experience and is still worth it develop it in the future.

haha i win.
Anyways I like the mystery game and investigating everybody but i thought it was defo odette after i saw the rat poison in her place so many it was a bit 2 easy. The art is rlly nice but its mixed with like pixel art and hand drawn art so there are inconsistencies. There was also a lot of text which took me a while to read (for a slow reader like i am). maybe if you were to update this game u can make it progressive talking instead of js one paragraph per box? Like animal crossing dialogue i think? . Also it was hard knowing who i was talking to because the names are not label and also i accidentially skipped a dialogue of a hint and idk if it was js me but i couldnt go back so i had to restart the game lol. But yeah solid submission that was made in 7 days

Submitted

Oh, not to be nitpicky, but it was also hard to know who I was actually speaking to. And when I clicked on a hint, I couldn't go back, so I had to restart the game to re-read it

The characters are so cute and the music is so fun! I have really a good time playing this game.

Just the interactions are not quite intuitive to me and it would be nice if updated in later versions. Some people have already said in their reviews. And as for me, since I'm the kind of person who don't quite read instructions in advance, not untill I'm stuck and can't find a way myself. So when I met the first dialogue, and found the space bar, the enter key, and left-click the dialogue box all didn't work, with the lack of audio in that scene, I thought it must be something wrong with my web so it's not loaded properly. After Ctrl R and re-enter the game three times and found it keeps happening. I read the tutorial and realise I should press E instead of Space bar or Enter key or simply left-click the dialogue box to continue the dialogue, which seems not that intuitive to me.

Also, I personally think it would be better if there're some sound effects when characters are speaking, and the text in dialogue shown word by word or character by character instead of the whole paragraph all shown at once, since the character avatar's all have very cute animations of talking, so the dialogue and the sound effects all have a hint of talking might be more consistence and more intuitive and more fun. And maybe help the players to be more concentrated while reading those really long paragraphs.

And something about the pause menu. It's very intuitive to use Ecs key as the pause menu. However, in WebGL build, press the Ecs key will also result in exit of fullscreen mode. I personally prefer play WebGL games in windowed mode so this won't happen but the font size of the dialogue text in this game is not quite big enough for short sighted person like me, so though start with windowed mode, I quickly turn into full screen mode, and accidentally exit fullscreen when I try to call pause menu a couple of times. I think it might be better if there's also a pause menu icon in HUD so that players who use fullscreen mode can click without having to press esc key which will accidentally exit full screen mode and may interupt the immersive experience.

Overall a very good entry, and I'm really looking forward your post-jam version.

Detective Bubbles is such a cute name haha, and the cozy murder mystery vibe works really well here. I liked the time mechanic where every clue costs time, it makes the choices feel a bit stressful in a good way. I did have the same issue as others with figuring out what I could click sometimes, but this was still super charming :)

Nice and cozy 2d game.

Really liked it.

I am amazed by the artstyle and the story of this game

And also the time mechanic is not common, but it executes well in this game

Also, the animation for each character is pretty fluid

Fun little game!
Some Feedback:
Characters seem to be floating. Maybe use a bar or a Horizontal UI that stretches the whole screen to make it feel like they are appearing behind it.
Having names appear for the characters and their homes would have helped me a lot.
Some screens don't have any sound.
Allow re-click to see what i found in investigation (without adding time).
You could add visual cue to what can be investigated so people don't have to randomly click everything.

Insane that a 7-day game has animated portraits! Great art and a complete story. Adding some highlights to the interactable objects would make it 100% perfect :D

That's such a cute game- I've gotta say I really love the art style and the characterization here.

The time mechanic is really interesting, love what y'all went for there and I can definitely see this being even better than it already is given more polish time. Cool game :)

Really cute game, I loved the characters and the art style a lot, and the time limit actually made me think more about which clues were worth checking. Sometimes it was a bit hard to understand what I could interact with and I got confused with the controls a few times, a dialogue/clue log would also help a lot. Still really fun and charming overall!

I can't seem to figure out how to get anywhere but the main 2 areas, cafe and lobby?

Developer

Hey, thank you so much for your comment! There’s a short tutorial at the beginning of the game to help you understand how to use the controls. The E key lets you skip dialogue, while ? or M lets you go back after clicking on a window or door to enter an apartment, the lobby, or the café, and return to the main map.

There was a murder in the residence, and your goal is simply to find the culprit by exploring and talking to the residents. We hope you’ll give it another try and let us know what you think! 🥰

I tried pressing the window, but it didn't seem to work as well as the cafe and main area? I'll try again in a few minutes

I like the characters & their animations. They are so cute in this style. Dialogues are good too. I think the game needs a little bit of more UI elements. I would like to see characters names above on speech boxes and history log for to see past dialogues..  And maybe introduce characters in their apartments might help instead of introducing everyone at the same time. But i really loved the visuals!

Developer

Schatzig, thank you so much for your feedback! We really appreciate it.

Loved there isn't enough time to search for every clue so you got to carefully choose what to investigate, thankfully what i did was enough to find the right culprit, had to give it a little thought, good job!

Honestly, At 11:30 is super cute. Detective Bubbles is an instant win, the art style has so much personality, and juggling the time limit while trying to spot real clues vs. red herrings actually makes you feel like a detective.

Nice little murder mystery. First of all, the character portraits are totally adorable, really well done art, the spritework for the rooms and building is pretty nice as well.

I like the aspect of managing time, and the fake clues are a nice sprinkle of difficulty, it's true that some clues are more obvious than others but I think the game throws enough of a curveball as to not make it totally obvious on a first playthrough. I had suspicions on many of the characters and I actually had to think a little to figure the best spots to examine, that is really good.

The dialogue and the different characters are also quite well written with distinct personalities, it's really charming.

The music also sets the atmosphere quite well, like the antique shop guys song having the old timey filter or Malo's room having a more dramatic tune (a song in the map would have been nice though)

My only criticism would be, as many have pointed out, that it can be a bit hard knowing what to examine as the highlight is pretty lowkey

But overall? This game is great! I had quite a bit of fun playing, kudos to y'all!

It's a pretty good game. I like the character sprites in the dialogue window — they look really cool. However, during sprite animations, you can sometimes see the sprite getting slightly cut off, or, conversely, bits of neighboring sprites showing through.

Since the control buttons aren’t grouped together — and one of the hints opens with the mouse from the bottom left, not from the Tab — it’s sometimes easy to get confused about the controls. Also, there’s a serious lack of names indicating who’s speaking at any given moment, which makes it really hard to figure out who’s being referred to at the beginning of the game.

I also encountered a couple of bugs: sometimes clues I’d found didn’t appear in the clues menu, even though I could read them, or conversely, they appeared in the menu but displayed the text “this clue hasn’t been found yet.” Also, at the end, I couldn’t select a suspect, but pressing random control keys helped.

Just in case, I recorded part of my playthrough on video, so if you need it, I can find the moments with the bugs I mentioned.

I suppose it’s often harder to give feedback on what’s done well in a game, since a well-made game element is often one that players won’t notice.

I like how you’ve portrayed the characters’ personalities — each one feels unique. I didn’t have any trouble reading the text. I also liked that there are some objects to explore that don’t yield anything and just take up time. It really makes you think about what’s worth exploring and what probably isn’t worth your attention.

Spoilers:

I figured out who the killer was because they went back to their room during the party, and they were the only one with some kind of poison — and the victim had, in fact, been poisoned. (It’s strange, though, that the killer didn’t hide the poison.) Also, the window in the victim’s room was open. The killer could have climbed in through the window and poisoned the food in the victim’s room. It’s unlikely that no one would have noticed a huge portable ladder leading up to the third floor, so it’s much more likely that the killer actually came down from the floor above—and the killer happens to live right above the victim’s room (though I might just be reading into something that wasn’t intended, since I couldn’t inspect the window).

Also, I think it would be nice to add a bit more clues, but make them a bit less obvious, since right now it’s more of a vibe check based on how the characters talk, plus a matter of luck in stumbling upon one of the two clues about who has the poison.

And finally, the most important thing — the question on everyone’s mind:
