I really liked how the customers themselves become part of the challenge instead of just being background characters. Having to keep an eye on everyone while trying to figure out who’s actually suspicious creates some nice tension, nice sound design and animation were great aswell. nice work

How does the game fit the theme?
You play a shop keeper with not so trustworthy customers
What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
I used some of my old game code as a reference for some areas of the game like camera zooms
How many people worked on the game?2

Really nice game with music and theme that fits very well. However, you should remove the quit button because the game freezes when it's clicked, because there is no actual application to quit.
I had a lot of fun playing this! I've seen a few games in this jam with a similar concept, but they tend to be very chaotic. I found that you struck a good balance here with just enough mild chaos with the number of characters and their muttering and the room size (not being able to see it all at once, forcing you to keep moving) to make things challenging, but not frustrating. I agree with some of the other comments that there could be more obvious feedback when you get something right or wrong, either a subtle visual or audio cue, but the lack of that didn't really bother me. Great job with what you were able to accomplish in the 7 days!
That's a very fun concept, loved the characters! x)
For some feedback, I felt it lacking a bit of visual feedback, at first I wasn't sure if I'm doing it right. Like, "so did I catch them? Did they return the goods?" Once I saw the first cross appear, it became much more clear though.
I think it doesn't really need a tutorial, more like visual hints that you've caught the guy. There was another entry with a similar concept and they've added the text that you've saved the goods and the customers were running away with a beat look - /jam/brackeys-16/rate/4944956
I think it's just that I was unlucky to get more vague reactions like "No touching, I'll sue!", which kinda made me unsure. Others were more obvious. So I'd either change the lines or add an extra indicator for catching the thieves.
Fun game, I really like the character design but also the overall art style and UI, plus the background on the game page is also really cool and the music is also great. I was a bit bothered by the freeze when catching a thief. In normal mode it didn't bother me at all, but in hard mode, that zoom in was a significant obstacle and felt a bit unnecessary. When there are so many thieves, catching them meant I was pretty much stopping every second while half of them escaped, making it feel like the challenge was more about fighting the game than the thieves. But other than that, I really enjoyed playing in normal mode and Carl mode, I feel like the balance is just right there (perfect amount of Carl). Also, at the beginning near where the character spawns, there's a computer, were there plans to add a camera system? It zoomed in when I stood near it, but I don't think I could interact with anything and I think it would be really cool. Overall, the whole project looks really solid, the game is polished and it's very enjoyable to play and has a lovely vibe. Great take on the theme. Good job! ♥
thanks for such a kind and detailed comment!
I ran out of time to work on hardcore mode (it was kinda last second) but I think after reading your comment I’ll rework it for sure!
The computer definitely has plans! In fact my vision for the game is that you have to manage a few tasks while also checking in on the customers
thank you for playing! Really glad to hear you liked it!!
I beat normal mode and carl mode, and can confidently say this is cool. It kind of lacks gameplay but apparently it's unfinished so that's expected. It was also quite unclear if I had caught a thief or not sometimes. And the screen gets overwhelmed by dialogue when everyone runs into me. The music and art are pretty great. Overall solid game!
before even playing the game, the “I’m batman” in the banner image got me XD
The art is really nice! I also liked the music, it was a great experience!
I recently discovered my love for shop games, so this was right up my alley! ;-)
The visuals have a really nice retro vibe, and there is definitely genuine potential in this concept. That said, a few things left me a bit confused. Mainly why the screen aggressively zooms in on me when near the PC, and how on earth to mute the soundtrack :D
A really promising foundation with a fun premise!
to me everyone seemed shifty but the theme asked for it. So well done on that part!
I think the customers locking you down when talking with no way out but to wait is too harsh. Makes its too easy to miss someone stealing. But nice job.
I Won! Great game, honestly. I feel like the dialogue shouldn't lock you in place because then by catching one guy you miss out on others. other than that the game is amazing, well done!
