Firstly, congrats on tackling your first game jam (and doing it alone! I was not so brave and teamed up xD)

Before I mention anything about the game itself I must say that it is a great idea to publish the dev logs, I haven't seen anyone else do it and it is both a great organizing tool for the dev and really nice for the players who can see the progression and thought process behind the game development.

The game itself is really good. it is always great to have a "how to play" page especially for games with more complexity or mechanics. The art is really "smooth" for lack of a better word haha, just feels easy on the eyes and everything matches. The audio really seals the deal and gives the whole experience the finishing touch.

The game is simple but very fun and can be replayed multiple times, over and over without feeling repetitive, and is very impressive for a game made in one week

Really nice entry and again congrats for finishing your first game jam :D

Thanks a lot for taking the time to write such a detailed review! I’m especially glad you enjoyed the devlogs. I mostly started them to document the jam for myself, so it’s really nice to hear that they are an interesting read for others too.

And thanks for all the kind words about the game itself. I feel like I learned quite a bit in that one week, mostly because actually finishing and shipping something is such a different experience from just building a prototype. Really glad you enjoyed it!

It's cool to see a fully designed "board" game created during the jam. I could definitely see this being an interesting one to play against someone at an actual table!

Edit: Oh I also really appreciated that you made a devlog for each day, I'll have to keep that idea in mind for future jams

Developer

Thanks a lot for taking the time to play and for checking out the devlogs too! I’m really glad the board game feel came through, since that was a big part of what I was going for. And it’s nice to hear the daily devlogs were actually interesting to follow. Thanks again!

Great game please rate my game

Developer

Thanks for playing and rating! Glad you enjoyed it.

Great puzzle game — it was a totally novel experience for me!

(Our game is still a bit short on ratings, so if you've got a sec to leave one we'd really appreciate it :D)

Developer

Absolutely, I’ll gladly help the cat find his balls. That’s a cause worth supporting. I’ll check it out!

Really interesting idea for a puzzle game, the art and music also fits the game. The game is pretty easy to understand and I I beat it pretty easily. A harder difficulty would be great so I can try to strategize a bit more!

Developer

Thanks for playing and for the feedback! I agree about the difficulty. Right now most of the challenge only really starts once you try to beat your own high scores, so I’d like to push that a bit further in a future version. Glad you enjoyed it!

He, this is a nice game like the puzzle you made. Art is super NICE. Sound and audio fit the feel so also job well done.

some tips to improve the game if you have the time because its a fun concept:

I missed the hover tooltip i had to think of wat buildings i had placed. Also when a new building appears i wanted to know what is up with that. Just a bit to help me understand it better the first go. Also some VFX dust when placing and screen shake could do a lot to give your game more juice.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the detailed feedback and for taking the time to play! It’s very useful to hear how the game reads on a first playthrough and how I could improve on its look and feel, and these are definitely some good suggestions. Glad you enjoyed it!

This is a great game! I loved all the sounds when you pick up a card or put a building down. and the art for all the buildings looks really good too. Well done!

Developer

Thanks a lot! Glad the building placement felt good. I’m especially happy you liked the building art, since I drew all of it by hand during one very full workday. :-)

Very nice and interesting town management puzzle! Art is very cozy, and gameplay is intuitive and with just right amount of explanation on every building. Well done!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot! I had a lot of fun putting the different factions and building effects together, so I’m glad the whole thing worked for you. Thanks for playing!

Very nice puzzler! I like the twist on city-builder. I wish I knew what level of influence a building would grant before I place it. Also, two turns does not feel like a lot of time to balance out this influence. I only had a tie once.

Very nice art! I like the hand drawn style - the buildings and guilds looked all unique - this is an impressive amount of art for a game jam. Overall, very nice game - I'd be interested to know if you plan to continue on it.

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot! The influence a building grants is actually the same as its base point value before the favor bonus, so that information is available before placing it, but I could probably communicate that more directly in the UI.

Your point about only having two turns to correct the balance is interesting too. Certainly worth considering. I’m really glad you liked the art and the different faction identities!

I haven’t decided yet whether I’ll continue working on it, but I do have a few ideas for expanding it beyond the jam version.

Submitted(+1)

Very neat idea, not sure I've played a game quite like this before! Obviously this was for a jam so the current game is pretty small, but what you have here looks and feels very polished. I could see this being expanded in many ways to become a full game with a lot of replayability. Great job!

Developer

Thanks a lot! I’m glad the core idea came across well. I definitely have a few ideas for how it could be expanded beyond the jam version, so it’s really nice to hear that you can see the potential there too.

Submitted(+1)

Interesting idea! I think its too easy to win by playing 2 of each faction each turn. Maybe having them automatically build up power once placed or putting more stringent round win criteria in would have added more weight to the decisions for what to build and where. But nice job regardless!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the thoughtful feedback! You're not the first person to point out that the influence system could use a bit more pressure, so that's definitely something I'd revisit. The decisions were meant to feel more tense than they currently do. Glad you liked the idea!

Submitted(+1)

Clever game! There's a lot of potential to expand on this with the puzzle/gameboard elements.

I scored a 45. Love the old-fashioned high-score-based game! WE GOTTA BRING THEM BACK!!

Developer

I just watched the stream recording. Unfortunately, I couldn’t make it live since it was already around 2 AM here in Germany when the stream started. Thanks a lot for playing and showing my game! And yes, a global high score list would be great! 54 is my personal best on this build.

The art and shadows look very appealing.

Developer

Thanks! I kept things deliberately simple visually, so it’s nice to hear that the overall look still landed.

Submitted(+1)

Really fun. I admit I missed having a playable tutorial to get a better grasp of things, but that’s mostly just because I’m a bit dense, haha. I realize that, given the timeframe, it probably wasn't feasible.

I really liked the visuals, too. I can easily picture this project growing, with other categories of buildings. Maybe a 2.5D map view? Very promising.

Developer

Thanks! I actually considered a playable tutorial, but it just wasn’t realistic within the jam timeframe, so I went with the in-game How to Play page instead. I also thought about presenting the map in 2.5D or isometric style, almost like the current game projected onto a tilted board, but that had to stay on the cutting room floor too. Glad you liked the visuals! I’ll see whether I expand on the project after the jam. I have a few ideas. :-)

I really like these kinda game's on game jams because they are always so innovative , and this game is one of those I think the art was clean and nice , the influence mechanic I don't think has a strong "influence" on the game because its kinda easy to just tie the three factions or just space out their influence during the 6 rounds I think maybe there should be more rounds or the influence required for a faction to win decrease from 3 to 2

but yeah , I think the different buildings for each faction was a neat mechanic and I liked the unique function for each of them

also I just checked , you wrote a devlog for every day ? that's awesome , I haven't seen anyone do that in a game jam ! for your first jam this is a wonderful game you've made , keep up the good work and goodluck

(Marshi from "Beware of Sheep" team)

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for the detailed feedback! I think your point about influence being too easy to balance is very fair. That mechanic is supposed to create tension, so it’s really useful to hear where it currently falls short. I’m glad you liked the faction buildings too! And thanks for checking out the devlogs. I mostly wrote them for myself as a kind of diary of the jam, but it was fun to document the whole process along the way.

Submitted(+1)

I loved the simple visuals! Could’ve use some UI improvements as I had some trouble identifying what I already have on the map, etc. Fun game!

Developer

Thank you! Glad you had fun, and thanks for the feedback!

Submitted(+1)

I think you were very clever with your interpretation of the theme, as the trusting and distrusting are central to the game loop, not just the aesthetic.

It will work amazing as a board game in my opinion.

Developer

Thanks! I’m a huge board game fan myself, so I really appreciate that. I’m also glad the theme worked for you.
